We had the good fortune of connecting with RJ McCarley and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi RJ, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
TechChup is on the mission to make sure that businesses are secured from cyber threats. When we can get businesses to follow the latest cybersecurity trends, we’re able to protect the innocent members of the community. To break that down further, we are so used to seeing businesses get hacked on the news. Whether they had a large data breach or their services are completely shut down, but who ends up being the true victim of these attacks? Businesses will deploy insurance and hire reactive teams to mitigate the damage so they are safe. That leaves the members of the community who are typically the customers of these businesses. Customers are ultimately the ones that have to suffer the results of their data breach or a service being down. You may recall a time when we couldn’t get gas after a ransomware attack took down an oil pipeline? This is what how TechChup helps the community, we try to help businesses prevent these attacks so that members of the community don’t have to become victims.
What should our readers know about your business?
TechChup is a managed IT provider, with a strong focus in cybersecurity. The thing that sets us apart from our competitors is the cybersecurity aspect, we truly put security first and thrive to build a safer digital space for our clients.
Of course the journey to get where we are today was not easy at all. When it comes to cybersecurity, businesses tend to put the funding for it on the backend. Smaller businesses tend to not worry about cybersecurity as much as they should, yet smaller businesses make up a large portion of cybercrime victims. So how did we convince businesses to spend money? We had to learn to educate, that has been a great factor in our success. Learning early on, that educating businesses about cybercrimes and cybersecurity trends, was a great success for TechChup. It only makes sense, how can you sell a product if people don’t know they actually have a need for it? You can’t.
If there’s one thing I want the world to know about TechChup, we provide a free risk assessment. This provides business with information about their assets and the risk associated with them. Take us up on this, you don’t have to hire us, I feel this is a huge part we owe to the community, it’s just nice to get a checkup every now and then.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oh this could be a huge list but I’ll try to keep it short.
Some places we must go to eat:
SluttyVegan ATL
Pretty Little Tacos
Nakato
Politan Row for drinks, some of the best bar tenders over there.
Must Visits:
National Center for Civil and Human Rights
The Beltline
Piedmont Park
Krog Street Tunnel
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The Atlanta Black Chambers, it’s like no other organization out here. It’s great to be apart of a community of like-minded individuals, but it’s even better when that community seeks to actually help grow sustainable and profitable black owned entities. Black and brown businesses are extremely underrepresented, so when organizations, like ABC, come together to help it’s truly empowering. I think TechChup wouldn’t be where we are at today without the community at The Atlanta Black Chambers.
