We had the good fortune of connecting with Rita Bunatal and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rita, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
It has played a major part in my life. If I didn’t take risks, I would not be where I am today.

What should our readers know about your business?
Malaika Collective is a multicultural home for Black people from all parts of the African diaspora. We are a global collective of Black creatives, entrepreneurs, activists, artists, writers, designers and problem-solvers who strive to create a space where we can all come together to share our histories, stories and resources with one another. Since 2015, we have created a platform that amplifies the authentic experiences of Black people, creating socially conscious media and broadcasting it to an international audience. We provide a space for people to explore and share their love of Blackness and other diasporic cultures through content, goods, and services. Whether it is through simple greetings, clothing that inspires self-love, or conversations with like-minded people, we provide a platform for Black creatives to share their work, stories, and experiences with the world. We are committed to preserving Black culture and providing a safe space online & IRL for those who are marginalized in mainstream media.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My community has always held me down and helped me in my time of need. Without community, I wouldn’t be where I am today and always have to thank them. Shout out to everyone who believed in me before it was cool!
