We had the good fortune of connecting with Rileigh Altman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rileigh, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
Growing up, I’ve always dreamed of creating something on my own. Once I got accepted into the cosmetology program through the technical school, MCCTC, I immediately started taking steps towards my goal. Beauty Freak started out as a school project, where I got to create a presentation to pitch a business idea. As my dreams started to form on paper with the help of the wonderful staff and teachers at MCCTC, I decided to jump on my idea and make it into a reality. In addition, my family has supported me since day one and continue to do so, as they have always reminded me to dream big.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Beauty Freak is an all natural, cruelty free, and confidence boosting beauty line. Being paraben, sulfate, silicone, formaldehyde and talc free, Beauty Freak always puts the health and safety of their customers first. Beauty Freak’s values are all about providing them with the confidence to unleash their freaky side! As a young teen, I have had experiences dealing with self esteem, finding my confidence, and learning how to love myself for who I am. Growing from these experiences, I wanted to create a beauty line that not only makes you look good, but also makes you feel good when using it! Beauty Freak is all you need to bring out your inner freak!

In the journey of creating my business, I had many challenges to cross, however the one that stood out the most, was taking a financial risk. I was nervous to spend a lot of money and not make it back in profits. The start was definitely slow, but as I learned from trial and error, my sales started to pick up and I got very excited! My advice to anyone who wants to start a business of their own would be to not hesitate on making a big jump, because you never know what possibilities await you!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to recognize a few people in my life that have made a huge impact on the success of my small business. First and foremost, my mom, Rachel Yokley. She has supported me since the day I was born, has loved me, and has given me advice when I needed it the most. I wouldn’t have been able to have done it without having my best friend by my side! Secondly, I want to recognize Dani and Nate Wilson, the owners of Woodland Cellars in Hubbard, Ohio. The two have supported me by hosting my business at their winery, have purchased supplies for my business, and have given me their upmost support! They both have helped me bring my dreams into reality! With saying this, I am so blessed to have these wonderful people in my life and that I’m continuing to make friendships along the journey!
