We had the good fortune of connecting with Rickie Perryman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rickie, what’s the end goal, career-wise?
The end goal of my career is to have a big team of like minded individuals who are ready to get to the bag. We want success for ourselves and those around us. I want a team of graphic designers and crafters working together. I plan to have my own building for graphics, crafts, apparel, accessories, and prints. The ultimate all in one. I see my brand as the next Fenty, with addons.

What should our readers know about your business?
My brand is called Sams Designs. I am a branding specialist and I have my own tee line under this same business. I design my own boss tees for entrepreneurs with uplifting quotes and sayings. I’m most excited about the upcoming additions to the brand. In addition to tees, we’re going to be adding keychains, and hopefully custom joggers as well. I’m extremely proud of the way my business has taken off in the first year of me being open. The support and success are the most helpful, and keeps me motivated. I got to where I am today through nonstop hard work. There are a lot of times I felt as if I wanted to give up, though I knew that no one in my corner would let me. Building this brand was not and still is not an easy thing to do. There are days where I don’t feel things will go right, or days where I just plain am not into it, and this is life. The way I overcome these days where I feel like this, is to think about when I didn’t have my business. I look at all the things I wasn’t doing before, and all the things I’m doing now and I’m going to do. I’ve learned to not give up so easily, and if I need a break to definitely take one. Everyone needs a clear mind with whatever it is they want to do in life. I want the world to know of this young entrepreneur black woman who wants to help other small business owners build their brands up and get them known. I want them to know that I wanted to uplift business owners with my tees and give them a fashion they can rock and be proud of.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My best friend visits the area, there’s only one thing happening. A LOT OF HANGING OUT. We hardly go out, so movies, house work such as decorating and rearranging, getting nails done, maybe some low key shopping is good for us. We will go and grab wings, or pizza and just hang out at my house. I do agree that checking out new spots downtown can be fun, such as the new museums.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
When it comes to all that I do, there are a list of people I bring with me everywhere. But I would NOT be anywhere without God. That is first. Without God, this would not have been possible. There are others that help me and others who pray on my success and I am completely grateful for everything they have done for me. If there had to be a specific person I’d give my shout out to, it would be my sister in law, Joy or as we call her “Juice”. No matter how much I try to give up, she amps me up to do better, she’s helped me out in ways that no one can imagine. I will always bring her up with me. Her prayers for my success and her helping me with funding for my business as well as the advice she’s given me in the path that I wanted to take.
