We had the good fortune of connecting with Rick Mayo and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rick, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
It’s actually hard to remember as it was 1992! I was a junior in college and simply wanted to create a better customer experience for my clients and avoid traveling between locations as frequently.
What should our readers know about your business?
We were first to the undustry with a botuqiue fitness facility dedicated to the service of personal training. While it’s somewhat mainstream now, that was certainly not the case in 1992. Aorund 6 years into our business we had a major hiccup that nearly sank us. The result of clawing our way back and systemiazing our business became the impetus to our licensing business which we deployed to over 2500 fitness facilities worldwide and and now a full franchise model. In every challenge lies am opportunity that may be hard to recognize at the time.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Great question! This is actually one of our interview questions for candidates applying to join Team Alloy. We want to be sure that we exhibit a “true interest in others”. In this case that would manifest itself in a question to the question, which would be, “What do you like to do”?
If you’re asking me personally, I love to be active so I would recommend to someone like me that they visit the river parks, take a drive to the mountains and ride the greenways and bike paths that ATL has to offer. Being that I’m originally from Texas, I would have to recommend a few of my favorite Mexican food restaurants. You really can’t go wrong there!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Definitely my father. I witnessed him leave his corporate job and become an entrepreneur. It wasn’t until a few years ago that I realized what an advantage seeing him become an entrepreneur was for my career.
