We had the good fortune of connecting with Renee Clor and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Renee, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I am the type of person that always has to have a reason or an explanation for something and everything! In my industry I found myself constantly asking myself “why” all the time. It eventually got to the point to where I was constantly asking myself “why can’t I be my own boss”/ “why am I working so hard to lay someone else’s bills” and most of all “why shouldn’t I just branch off on my own and see how this goes?!” To make a very long story short, that is pretty much how I decided to detach my personal craft and creativity and do my own thing!
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
At FIXX BEAUTY, our clients are not just a transaction. These are moments in peoples lives that they will remember forever! It is often so easy to look at a person as a business transaction. Whether you’re doing their hair, or their makeup, it is our job to also provide them with the memories! It is so easy to take a artform like make up, or hairstyling and put a price tag on it. Anybody can do that! And that’s exactly what is happening to our industry now. It is all so overwhelmingly saturated that it leaves an obligatory responsibility to businesses like ours to stand out from the rest. I try to make our message loud and clear whenever I have somebody in my chair. The make up we are putting on these peoples face is not to hide what they want, but to enhance who they truly are! Not one single person on this planet needs a face full of make up to be beautiful. We live in a society now that tells us what we should look like, what we should eat, and how to feel. So often we do not take the time to learn to love ourselves. If someone is in my chair for 10 minutes or three hours, my genuine hope is that they leave with some of the best memories! But most importantly my hope is that they gain a sense of self love as well!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I spent all of my early 20s in Los Angeles, so I can’t say that I am personally a little over the club life scene! Besides work if I could avoid Atlanta/midtown/Buckhead area… I most certainly will! If I had a best friend coming into town, I could imagine that we would both be on the same page as far as the vibe we are going for! I personally love the downtown Roswell area! I love the mixture of different places to eat and different cocktails you can openly walk around with! I also love the downtown Alpharetta area as well! I have definitely turned into a foodie over the past few years and in both of these areas I definitely can say that they’re one of my personal favorites to take family or friends to! Especially when it comes to options!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
It is very hard to pinpoint one specific person when it comes to having to recognize someone who has helped guide me in my success. There is not one particular person, but there are SO many! They have all helped get me to where I am now! In this industry you have to stand strong in your community. You have to stand out from every other person claiming that they can do what you do. I am always grateful for the small tightknit community that I have formed around me whether it’s my crew at FIXX, or the people I hit up back in California or Los Angeles to ask for business advice and/or general guidance. I am even thankful for some of the precessional relationships that I’ve chose to walk away from. All of these experiences continue to teach me owho and what I want to be as an entrepreneur and business owner. Most importantly all of these interactions throughout my professional career have helped form what the actual message behind a small business like FIXX BEAUTY is, and that is “To always believe in yourself”
