We had the good fortune of connecting with Reggie Osborne and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Reggie, how does your business help the community?
The purpose of my business is to empower, encourage, and edify the youth. Our youth are struggling academically, socially, and mentally. Every time you turn on the news, you hear about a young person being gunned down or gunning some down. In the metro Atlanta area, schools are on constant lock downs due to violence among the students. Students are dropping out of high school at an alarming rate. Teenage suicide is at an all-time high. Our youth are giving up on themselves and their academic career.
I work with schools, church’s, community organizations, and etc. to motivate, stimulate, and educate the minds of the youth. I was an at-risk student. I failed classes. I was kicked off my high school baseball team due to poor grades. I almost didn’t graduate high school. I grew up around gangs, drugs, and violence. I know the struggles that our youth face. Because of the guidance of others, I was able to find my purpose and get my life on the right track. I am here to do the same for others. I strive to give them the blueprint to overcome adversity to find purpose while increasing their academic growth.
What should our readers know about your business?
My business isn’t about me. It’s all about the youth. I am here to serve them. I have been working with youth for over 20 years. Nothing warms my heart more than seeing a young person succeed. I connect with them on a personal level. I’m not just a speaker. I am a life coach. Along with group presentations, I provide 1 one 1 mentoring. This includes personal development plans and goal setting.
One of my biggest challenges was getting in front of my audience. When I first began my speaking business, no one would accept my invitation to speak. Even when there wasn’t a fee associated with it, no one would give me the opportunity. I would send out hundreds of emails to schools offering my services, but less than 5% would respond. I started increasing my social media content. I utilized Instagram, YouTube, Facebook, and LinkedIn to share valuable information for our youth. For there, I began to gain a large following. Peop0le started to realize my gift. They saw that I had a desire to serve our youth. My business began to slowly receive calls and emails from event coordinators. I’ve learned to trust God and remain consistent. If you keep knocking, the door will eventually open.
My life story/brand can be sum up in one phrase; “Believe in Yourself”. One of my main goals is to get young people to see their greatness. Once they recognize that they have a purpose and start believing in themselves then everything else starts to fall in place. Thats the story of my life.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m a northern boy who fell in love with the South. I love the music, food, and southern hospitality. Living in ATL, there are so many things to do. Whether you’re with family or hanging with friends, you will have a blast. Some of the places that my family and I love to visit are:
1. The battery- Loads of entrainments. Very relaxing. You can catch a brave’s game. You can play games. It’s a whole vibe.
2. Six flags- fun, fun, fun. You got to ride the superman at least once!
3. Stone Mountain park- beautiful place. I love the light show and drone show. It’s a vibe especially during the Christmas holiday.
4. State farm arena- whether it’s watching the hawks or taking in a concert, this place is amazing.
5. Mercedes Benz stadium. It’s always good to catch a falcon’s game. Beautiful new stadium. The food is good and the prices are fair.
6.Piedmont Park- I love attending the various festivals at piedmont park. The R&B feast is always top notch.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to dedicate this shoutout to my parents Reggie and LaBrentha Osborne. They never gave up on me. They always encouraged me to follow my dreams. My parents didn’t have much, but they always made sure my siblings and I had what we needed to be successful. They always put me in a position to win.
