We had the good fortune of connecting with Reggie Griffin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Reggie, what are you inspired by?
What inspires me most are the women in my family. I have seen them all face many difficulties in life, and manage to stay strong and overcome obstacles placed before them. Also, ever since I was young, animals and nature have been one of my major interest of mine. I have spent dozens of hours watching National Geographic and Safari explorations seeing different landscapes and animals.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My body of work consists of acrylic paintings with vivid colors. My mission is to communicate elements of nature with beautiful and resilient women and or animals. I invite individuals into a refreshing atmosphere created by combining different landscapes, seasons, and different times of the day. In my work i strive to provide an escape that invokes serenity. I now have a studio space in Underground Atlanta with Art and Industry Atlanta. This has open new opportunities for me allowing my work to be seen by Monet Rumford, curator of the Underground Atlanta Creative Cart Market. Monet made me one of six permanent artist in her biweekly art market from August-December 2021. This was a pivotal moment in my career but it was not easily obtained.
After graduating from college in 2017 I spent 3 years in a sort of Limbo trying to figure out how to make My Art into a profitable business. March 2020 was a huge turning point, one week after the city shut down during the pandemic I caught Covid 19. I was sick and out of work for seven weeks, but I took advantage of the time I had on my hands. I decided to teach myself a new medium acrylic paint, I painted for hours everyday until I was completely well and continued to paint everyday even once I returned to work. March 2021 I caught Covid once again and was out of work for quarantine. In those 2 weeks I pushed myself to complete a 5 x4 ft painting to apply all the techniques I learned over the past. My last day off quarantine I finished the painting and posted the time lapse of my process on TikTok and Facebook. The next day my video had thousands of videos, likes, and comments. The following week I was shipping prints of this painting to multiple customers in different states.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would have give thanks to Ralph Gourdine owner of the Westend Printshop. I have been working with him for about 3 years now and thanks to him giving me a chance to work with him; I have met so many people that have led me to opportunities in my Art career.
