We had the good fortune of connecting with RBIII and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi RBIII, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
In 2020, I graduated from Howard University as a Performance Music Major and Business Minor. This was during a time where the venues were closed, concerts and shows were practically obsolete, and a fresh pile of responsibility was steaming on my doorstep. Something had to be done. Starting my business was a decision born out of necessity and passion. The music industry was at a standstill ,but my passion for music remained unwavering. I did not want to get trapped in a 9-5 job outside the parameters of music. So I turned to teaching music lessons in Atlanta while awaiting opportunities in performance. However, what began as a temporary solution quickly blossomed into something more. Through word of mouth, I amassed a student base and realized the potential to build something of my own. I realized the reach and the difference I could make in these students lives. I understood a calling on my life.
Thus, RBIII Academy was born. From humble beginnings of traveling to students’ homes, we have evolved into a thriving music education center dedicated to nurturing creativity and fostering a love for music in students of all ages and backgrounds. Winning the Best Music School of Marietta in 2022 was a testament to our commitment and success.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I firmly believe that each of us has a unique purpose on this earth, something only we can fulfill. My mission is to help individuals uncover their true selves and passions. When I teach my students, I emphasize that while I can provide guidance on vocal technique and music theory, I cannot teach them how to express themselves authentically through their instrument. Your voice is inherently yours, unlike any other.
Discovering your voice and purpose is a personal journey that no one else can undertake for you, though many may attempt to. Drawing from my own experiences, I’m eager to share insights that may illuminate your path and inspire self-discovery. This philosophy sets our Academy apart from others. We specialize in customized lessons tailored to your aspirations. We prioritize nurturing that intuitive “knowing” within you, fostering confidence, overcoming obstacles, and embracing what truly resonates with your heart and body. Our focus isn’t solely on technical exercises; it’s about empowering you to explore the genres, topics, and expressions that ignite your passion and drive. We are grateful to be a step in your journey of you discovering you.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
For a week-long trip showing my best friend the best time ever, I’d kick things off with some outdoor adventure. We’d start our morning with a hike, perhaps at Kennesaw Mountain or through the bamboo forest. After working up an appetite, we’d freshen up and head to a cozy brunch spot or lunch spot (depending on how long the hike took.
Following our meal, we’d dive into some exploration. Whether it’s a stroll through The Battery or Ponce City Market, or perhaps a browse around a mall, we’d soak in the vibrant atmosphere and maybe do a bit of shopping.
To add some cultural historic enrichment to our itinerary, we’d dedicate some time to visit historical sites like HBCUs or museums. After a full day of activity and movement, we’d definitely need a nap.
As the night falls, we would hit the party seen for a night out on the town; dancing the night away and creating memories to last a lifetime.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to shouout Tevin Brown. An entraprenuer and philanthropist that has sewn into my life and the lives of young men all around the city of Tallassee. He showed me first hand that it was possible to be your own boss and played a hand in encouraging me to bet on myself. I wouldn’t be who I am or where I am today without him.
