We had the good fortune of connecting with RaShona Clark-Flowers and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi RaShona, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I was in an 8-year marriage that was ending and I was in a position where I now needed to depend on myself and do for my family. I have always wanted to be my own boss and this seemed like the perfect time. Creating projects and putting things together has been a love of mine for as long as I can remember and starting a crafting business seemed like the perfect next step.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My business allows me to dabble in all kinds of creativity. I’ve made prayer journals, prayer cards, and keychains. I’ve also designed wine glasses, coffee mugs, and pens. Not only that, I’ve decided to try my hand at centerpieces and wooden yard signs soon. I am trying to find a way to include my children in this business so that it can truly be a family business. I’m proud of the fact that I have stuck with the business thus far because starting your own business is not only hard, it’s scary. My dad once told me, ” the way to handle a hard situation is the same way you eat an elephant: a little bit at a time. So that is how I handle my business daily: I make my to-do list and put it on my wall, then I work on those tasks a few hours everyday.
I like being my own boss, but, I’m my own boss! Meaning, I have to worry about advertising, marketing, buying supplies, etc. It gets frustrating handling these things alone, but thank God I manage.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I live in a small town and there isn’t much to do here, and I spend most of my time with my children. When my friend visits, I would suggest we take a trip to Chicago for the Taste Fest or drive to Detroit and maybe hit Greektown Casino or go to this great restaurant called Fishbones.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My 6 children are my inspiration and motivation daily. My mother has been one of my biggest supporters since I started my business a year ago. She certainly keeps me busy with orders
