We had the good fortune of connecting with Raia – Coach Carey Carey and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Raia – Coach Carey, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
What was your thought process behind starting your own business?

I think probably a few things. Number one. You know, my parents often talked about being your own boss where possible. And I remember them saying that when you’re not your own boss, you’re not that you’re building someone else’s dream rather than your own. And then paired with my different learning styles, having ADHD, I just never saw myself being able to conform or fit in in the corporate space. So being my own leader allowed me to be able to do things in my own way and lead in the way that I wanted to lead.

What’s one thing about the industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?

I would say the number one thing I see that people are unaware of, or mistaken, is that anyone can be a life coach, which is true. However, you need to be certified just like any other profession. There has to be some form of accountability. And I would say that a lot of people have just changed their Instagram name or LinkedIn and decided to be a life coach, but they’re not actually certified. I very much support anyone wanting to help others. However, not being certified means you’re missing out on really valuable skills and tools on how to move someone through whatever they might be going through. And without that knowledge, you could potentially hurt somebody as well as hurt the industry.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?

I went from throwing events and making great money to shifting completely to becoming a life coach at 27. I was definitely taking a huge risk, but probably one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.

And what is the most important factor behind your success? The success of your brand? I would say a couple of things. Number one is staying true to my values and true to myself. Number two is probably managing my boundaries. And number three, having a really great team around me.
