Meet Rachel Stockwell | mama|doctor|owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Rachel Stockwell and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rachel, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.
I have always been relatively cautious in my life when it comes to risk – always playing it fairly safe, setting the bar for success as achievable as possible. After I had my second baby and was working for essentially unlivable wages, I had to really raise that bar when it came to opening my business; I started with no money, no loans, nothing in the bank and about 3 patients. I signed a 5 year lease with a very high rent, so I knew there was no option but to succeed. The moment I signed my lease I decided I needed a hard change of perspective. That year became my “yes” year. Yes, I am going to start a business. Yes, I am going to cover my overhead the first month. Yes, I am going to join business groups, Yes, I am going to do speaking engagements that make me feel uncomfortable. Yes, I’m going to approach total strangers and introduce myself. That year, I was on a podcast, I made cold calls to businesses, I joined a networking group where I quickly was voted in as President. I HUSTLED and said yes, yes, yes to every single opportunity that came my way. The riskiest part of that year was the choice I made to be absolutely quiet about all the decisions I made in and for my business. I asked no one for permission or their opinion, and I celebrated each month of success in business on my own. I didn’t want accolades, and I didn’t want anyone’s thoughts swaying my business decisions. I wanted my business success (or, of course, potential failure) to solely be my responsibility. Trusting myself and my gut instincts was my Ultimate Risk, and has taken me beyond business success – my entire life feels more successful because I gave myself the chance to rise beyond what I even expected I could do.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Atlanta Restoration Chiropractic is a wellness space I created to share a different chiropractic experience with families and individuals. I approach care honestly and passionately and my goal is to help people see how beneficial chiropractic care can be for the everyday life, as well as how different it can be for acute complaints. I wanted an extremely family-friendly space that felt fun and energetic, while delivering seriously good care. I am most proud of creating a space that people love to come to. I’ve achieved that by being myself in business, not taking anything too seriously, and by having expectations that people heal in my space. Achieving business success has been much easier than people communicate it is. It’s not hard to have a successful business, but it is BUSY and it takes massive organization and effort. I’ve learned to not be afraid of action and to trust my instincts.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’ve always been a city girl, but the last few years I’ve lived out in the ‘burbs and I enjoy having a little more space these days. I love Chamblee where my office is, so we’d grab coffee from my local favorite, Moonbird, some lunch and a drink at Oaxaca, then head up to Alpharetta for dinner and an outdoor concert on the Lawn.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Absolutely my mom, who is also a Chiropractor. She’s a brilliant doctor and mom, and someone I turn to daily for both clinical and business advice. My dad, also, who has always encouraged and reminded me that I can do hard things. His business perspective is priceless. I owe a lot to my boys, who were the spark to create massive change in my life that lead me to opening my own office.
