Meet Rachel McGiboney | Photographer & A Salesperson That Won’t Settle

We had the good fortune of connecting with Rachel McGiboney and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rachel, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Risk is an invitation. For different. For unknown. For adventure. It’s a language that we all have the opportunity to learn if we can muster the courage to do so. I’ve had 7 corporate jobs in 10 years. Each job I chose to leave, some without another lined up, others with my next role waiting for me. Every move was risky because in every decision you opt out of one thing for something else. Choosing to quit a six-figure job to pursue photography was quite a risk. One that I’m still currently paying for. But I needed to do it to satisfy the insatiable, “what if” questions that run rampant through my head. I needed to know I could do it. I wanted to know if I would enjoy it. I couldn’t determine that until I took the risk and tried.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m most proud of the fact that I don’t like to settle. I work hard and give everything my all, but if something doesn’t feel right in my gut I will always choose to pursue something else (take a risk) vs. stick with something that’s OK. “Fine” is one of my least favorite words. In life there’s power in moderation and balance and average, but in your career and your personal satisfaction, I believe that striving for adequate means you’re missing out on what could be. I want the world to know that I’m not finished. I haven’t yet created the bucket of goodness I’m meant to create. My legend is still in the works, but my promise is that I won’t stop until I’ve created something that brings many people joy, inspiration, and the encouragement we all need on a daily basis.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Ponce City Market is adorable, but Krog Street Market is my favorite. I could eat Superica pancakes 5/7 days of the week.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My parents are wildly supportive, but my shout out goes to Mia Hann, CEO of Whole Life Healing Center. She once said to me, “You are your brand. People pay for YOU, not your work.” And that just blew my mind. Thank you Mia for your unwavering support and constant cheering.
