Meet Rachael Highsmith | Owner of Designs by Ms. Ray Hygh

We had the good fortune of connecting with Rachael Highsmith and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rachael, what’s the most important lesson your business/career has taught you?
The most important lesson my business/ career has taught me is to depend on yourself. If no one else believes in your vision that it’s ok, God planted this vision to me and I must follow it because it will become fruitful. I’ve learned that I have to keep going no matter what!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Entrepreneurs are always busy! I’m always busy thinking of ways to implement great designs and offer great products to my clients.

I am the owner of Designs by Ms. Ray Hygh, a fashionable, comfortable, yet affordable apparel line. My line appreciates the people within my community, my melanated community. I believe what sets me apart from other business owners in my field is the access I give my clients. I make sure the shopping experience is personal, is exclusive and that reaching out to me, the CEO, is attainable. I’m excited to see my brand expand because I believe it will. My line has been shipped to over 7 states and internationally. With such exciting things I’ve experienced I have had my down moments, so it’s not easy, being an entrepreneur is hard, but I keep praying, and I keep going. I want the world to know about my brand. I am here to uplift my Kings and Queens, to empower, to expose our greatness, we come from greatness.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Outside of my sisters, one of my best friends lives back home in New Jersey, I would first take him out for brunch, city of charlotte have some great places for brunch, black owned. I would then explore university area, the boardwalk for some wine tasting and do some shopping at South Park and visit some boutiques.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are a number of close people who have been supporters, however my main supporter, my sister, Alex. She helps me stay grounded, she helps with business inquiry emails, helps me design at times, she deserves some recognition.
