We had the good fortune of connecting with Quintella Rodgers and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Quintella, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My thought process behind starting a business was if I can bring all my attributes, gifts, talents and leadership skills to someone’s company why not take all those things and build my own empire.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I consider my profession as a hair stylist as an art and my ministry. I get to be creative, make people feel good about themselves and pour in to them. As a teenage girl I began to do hair and loved doing it. However I also had a passion for youth and after receiving a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree and working over 17 years in the nonprofit sector with youth in underserved communities, I realized hair was still one of my passions. Well life became full circle when I found myself back in school to become a licensed Cosmetologist in my 40’s. I went on to open a salon and now use my education and experiences to support youth and women in my salon and not just hair services. My salon acts as a safe space and beacon of hope for many women who walk into our doors.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Here’s our itinerary: We would visit a different restaurant each day to experience Chicago style eating.
Pizza ( Giordano, Home Run Inn, Beggars
Hot dogs (Red Hots or Weiner’s Circle or Maxwells)
Italian Beef (Buona Beef,Pops & Al’s Beef)
We would visit the Shed Aquarium, The Beam, Michigan Avenue, Water Tower, Beaches, The Peggy Notebart Nature Museum, The Water Tower
Last but not least the many communities of Chicago.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to give a shoutout to my family, the past organizations I’ve worked for, both help mold me to who I am, what I want to be and what I don’t want to be. I’ve learned so much from experiences and through it all my village/supported me every step of the way!
