We had the good fortune of connecting with Quinn Barbour and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Quinn, why did you pursue a creative career?
I needed a way to express myself loudly but quietly behind the creation of my art. I use my words as expression and it’s the most healing form of art for me. I love how you can get lost in a paragraph, somehow having an out of body experience and then just snap back to reality. I also just like to create my own world with words and writing allows me that needed space.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a writer, but I’d like to call myself a serial creative artist. I enjoy getting my hands wet in many different areas of creativity. I’m a Libra, I can’t stick to just one thing and I can’t decide on one type of art. It all intrigues me. However writing seems like second nature, it’s just something I’ve been interested in since elementary school. I tried my hand at self publishing my first poetry collection in 2017 and it felt amazing to do something so vulnerable and creative all on my own. Though I’m most proud of my second book Momentum: A shadow work guide and journal. This book took off and I couldn’t be more thankful that such a powerful piece of work is reaching all the people it needs to reach. I assume the demand for healing during 2020 was what did it and I’m thankful for word of mouth doing it’s job. I’ve definitely had to learn lessons in patience and realizing that everyone won’t be accepting of your art but the ones who will be attracted to it are the ones you will really impact. My brand, BluSun, incorporates an umbrella of creative lanes. My main goal is to just heal aspects of people through a variety of art that also helps me to heal. If it sparks in just one person I’ve done my job.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I am such a homebody I would honestly be the worst person to ask haha! I’m a nature type of girl, I rather just find a nice spot with a view and relax and eat, chill and talk about something with depth or nothing at all. So I’d find secluded spots in nature and take full advantage of the tranquility of it all.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
