We had the good fortune of connecting with Quentin Sims and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Quentin, why did you pursue a creative career?
As a teenager I was able to witness firsthand the world renowned Organized Noize Productions put together these legendary groups like OutKast and Goodie Mob and make these dope records and I knew that’s what I want to do for the rest of my life.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I started out as a rapper. My Cousin Xavier and I would rap as kids at our Grandma house in Wildwood. My older cousin Felix introduced me to HipHop when I was 9 or ten years old and I been in love with it ever since. I attended Frederick Douglass High School and started a group with my homeboy’s Chip and Jahary and my cousin Tara knew I was serious about music and introduced me to her boyfriend at the time Jamaul Brown (Younger brother of Sleepy Brown Organized Noize) who liked our group and he started to produce our music. After some time the group disbanded and Jamaul and I continue working on music and was introduced to Postman from Houston Texas and we started a group called Xtra Ink. We impressed Sleepy Brown with our demo that he called us over to the Dungeon on day and wanted to work out a deal with us and Organized Noize Records but the deal never happened due to issues they were having with Interscope Records. Afterwards Jamaul and I would start working with Rusty James and start a production company named Outrealm Muzik. In 2007 we produced the Billboard Chart Topping hit single’s “Let’s Go” performed by REEC and “Big Blok” performed by REEC and featuring myself. After several offers from major record labels for a production deal with Outrealm Muzik we decided to go with Def Jam offer for $900,000 but never got to sign the contract because internal issues inside of Outrealm Muzik. I now have started my own production company QueuebeaTs and have a new single “BIG FAITH” from the artist Majer Change formally known as DONKEEBOI on the hit song “Body Rock” on Big Boi’s Purple Ribbon All Star Album featuring Killa Mike. We have a entire album coming soon. During my continuous journey in the music industry I’ve lost my mom to cancer in 2006 and my girlfriend to cancer in 2005. During those dark times I really learned to trust God and that’s why this record “BIG FAITH” is so on time because that’s all I had in my storms and trusting God is really our only line of defense because He is in control of it all. I also work with Gigatti Foundation and we help those transitioning back into our communities with financial literacy job opportunities and training.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Cascade Nature Preserve is a place a go to walk the trail think and listen to the water from the creeks and brook’s. Little Five Points is a great place to catch some good vibrations. Mr Everything on MLK is a cool spot my lady and I like hanging out at. Atlantic Station is my favorite spot to bowl and I love the scenery plus Yardhouse has a great lager selection.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to Shoutout Organized Noize (RIP Rico Wade) Eric Lewis CEO and Founder of Gigatti Foundation and also Fulton County Commissioner Marvin Arrington Jr.
