We had the good fortune of connecting with Quanzerria Dupree and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Quanzerria, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
I can confidently say the most important factor behind my success as not only an artist but also an individual is my belief and faith in God. The more I release my gifts, my thoughts, and my ideas to Him, He rearranges them, making them align with His. My job then is only to give my yes or no. When yes, He does exceedingly, and abundantly above all I could ever ask for. Despite what may seem unknown to me, it is fully known to Him. Knowing that His plans have always been to PROSPER me and those He loves, I choose to trust His plan. All my success comes from God and all glory be given to Him alone. I just have to continue being a WILLING vessel!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?

I’ve been doing spoken word for 6+ years. Being a spoken word artist isn’t as easy as it may seem. It isn’t just words and rhyme schemes. It isn’t just metaphors and similies. I tell stories. The stories I tell are rarely fiction because I give people admission into parts of my life story, to encourage them to continue in theirs. As an artist, I carry the responsibility and weight of a message to help set myself and others free!

The gift was never meant to be taken lightly. It isn’t all my weight to bare either because the words I share aren’t my own but a testament of God’s strength when I have “none”. As a performer, I invest in my performance and writing skill as often as I can because I know I can always improve. Improvement takes discipline and self accountability. It is an olive-crushing experience, but I don’t mind because the oil will be worth it. My Breakfast Bars cohort and mentor Jeanette…iks play a huge role in the crushing and producing.

Along the way, I have learned that my humanity is a gift. I have learned to accept my emotions and experiences for what they are yet, not let them define me, but let God define me solely. I’ve learned to keep going and pressing, especially when I don’t feel like it. I have to be more purpose-driven than outcome-driven, and that is something I am still learning!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Because Atlanta has changed so much and is consistently changing I can’t say where I would take someone. Atlanta does have bomb food so any dope wing place, a nice coffee shop to catch up. Of course, any music event, or game at the Mercedes Benz, State Farm Arena would be a go because it’s just something about Atliens that’s always a one-of-a-kind experience!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Credit and recognition for my successes would be first God then my community. Jesus, my family and friends, my Breakfast Bars / Gilly Brew Bar family, my auntie Janette…iks and everyone else that has been here in support along the journey!
