We had the good fortune of connecting with Qinye Xiang and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Qinye, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
When I was a child, I tried a lot of hobby classes, and among the various disciplines, I found that I liked drawing and painting the most. So, I continued to learn from elementary school until now. I love to express myself through painting and especially enjoy drafting and polishing a painting. While polishing a painting to my satisfaction, I feel a great sense of accomplishment, which gives me pleasure and satisfaction. As I grew up, I was exposed to more types of art, and I enjoyed watching movies and playing computer games. One of my favorite things is to enjoy the special effects in films and the beautiful artwork in games. I love the highly accomplished and extreme art forms and experiences. So, when I grew up, I continued to choose art-related careers and entered the film and television industry as a compositor.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.

As I refined my artistic skills, I became aware of the wide range of disciplines within the art world. The field of art is expansive and includes many different areas of expertise. During my third year of college, with a film production degree, I chose to specialize in visual effects for film. However, within the realm of visual effects, there are many subcategories. I was eager to learn about all aspects of visual effects, from supervising and producing to modeling, texturing, and lighting. As a result, I came to the United States to continue my deep learning effects at SCAD. Eventually, I decided to pursue a career as a compositor, which allows me to combine my technical skills with my artistic abilities. This role involves blending elements to create visually stunning shots.
I have more patience to polish my own work than other artists and am more imaginative while remaining true to my style. Work can always be modified and refined, and it is hard to say that a work is finished. That’s why I prefer to call films or commercials as art of regret in commercial projects. Because of the limited time and money, there is always no way to finish the movie but only try to make it the most satisfactory state within the limitation.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would spend three days taking them to some of Atlanta’s most well known tourist attractions such as the world of coca-cola museum, Georgia aquarium, history museum, and space museum. I’d take them to Food Trunk Park or the Lenox area for dinner walks, then spend two days exploring nature around the city, my favorite is the Great Smoky Mountains, where you can barbecue and camp in the mountains, or stay in a mountain bed and breakfast. You can see fireflies or red leaves in certain seasons in the mountains. For the rest of the time, I recommend staying in a small city in the surrounding area to experience the slow life of the region. My favorite is Savannah, which is a beautiful historical town. Walking around the city, you will see a lot of beautiful buildings; maybe some little unknown building is a hundred years old house.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My parents played a big role in my artistic upbringing. They were the ones who took me on my first attempts at drawing when I was young and helped me find my way by provoking me with questions when I was a bit lost. When I decided to pursue art-related studies and work, they continued to support me, both psychologically and financially.
