Meet Promise Bennett | Creator & Strategist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Promise Bennett and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Promise, how do you think about risk?
“If you want something you’ve never had, you must be willing to do something, you’ve never done.” I believe that this Thomas Jefferson quote answers how I feel about risk. I believe that you only start to truly live when you begin taking risks. We’ve all had some idea planted in our minds of what life and career paths should look like. These beliefs are often placed on us by others: parents, family, society. These are what I call safe bets, paths that have already been traveled by others and have the minimum level of risk of failure. True risk only comes when we think about what we want without the influence of outside sources. It’s when we reach deep down and find out what crazy idea or dream we have that’s unconventional. The idea or dream that belongs to only us. Once we find it and we act on it, then we are truly entertaining risk. Then we are truly living and not just existing. Risk is needed to survive. Risk has been the foundation of my life and career. It’s what put a fire in me and dared me to apply for the jobs I wasn’t qualified for. Risk is what it took to choose my business over my job. Risk is what it took to start the businesses I didn’t believe I could. Taking risks saved my life. If I would’ve conformed to my environment, I wouldn’t be who I am or where I am today. I will have to continue to take risks to get to where I want to go and continue becoming.

What should our readers know about your business?
I am the owner of Bennett Brands Company. I help new and existing entrepreneurs launch and grow their brands. I believe the thing that sets me apart from others is my process and no I don’t mean my business strategies. I start every project off with a prayer asking God to lead me creatively and to use me to help grow the brand I am working with. This may seem simple to others but to me , it is the most important step in my process. I got to where I am in my business today by following my own path and teaching myself. For a long time I struggled with imposter syndrome, because I had dropped out of college. I became a victim of societal educational pressures and didn’t view myself as “educated” without a degree. But then, I realized that I had worked with 2 Fortune 500 companies with no degree. I realized that I was really good at connecting, leading, thinking and strategizing. I realized that formal education was less important than skill and experience so I spent my time learning skills. I taught myself through books, free and paid trainings, Youtube, Google, seminars, groups and more. I don’t think building a business is necessarily easy or hard. There are a lot of moving pieces. I will say mindset and discipline are the hardest parts of entrepreneurship. I want the world to know that I created my brand and lived my life on my own terms. I want people to know that the path put before you is not the path you have to take. There is so much power in doing exactly what you want to do, the way you want to do it. Hopefully I can encourage others to embrace their power and tap in to their God given talent and purpose. I want people to know that I didn’t allow myself to be put inside of a box. I was created by the creator to create and that’s what I will do through this business and many more that will come after it.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Okay so I love nature, art and culture and Atlanta is the place for all three. A few places on my list for visiting would definitely be Van Gogh’s immersive experience, Trap Museum, Botanical Gardens, Piedmont Park, the Aquarium, and a Hawks game.
We would definitely eat at BQE’s, Slutty Vegan, and Ponce City Market. I love food! So we would eat just about anywhere.
I always think it’s good to reflect on where we’ve come from so taking the tour of the Martin Luther King Jr. Park is exciting. We also cannot neglect the impact Atlanta has had on the culture of music. There’s no way you can visit Atlanta without visiting the Trap Museum. While you’re at it, if you’re a boss babe you might as well grab a ticket and book a shoot at The Girl Mobb Museum, there’s no better place to take selfies or capture content for social media.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to shoutout my parents for always being transparent with me, reminding me that my life was my own to create and supporting every idea I’ve ever had.
