We had the good fortune of connecting with Porsha Rasberry and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Porsha, what are you inspired by?
Coming from a small town of poverty I must definitely say my struggle completely inspired my success. Growing up I never really knew what I wanted to be in life. I knew what I liked and what I thought was somewhat interesting, but never what I specifically wanted to be. What I did know was that I wanted to be successful, not just rich or famous but genuinely successful. Where I’m from you saw of course people “with money” and a few rich people, but none really successful as far as giving back and doing huge things for the community. No one is establishing things, like acting theaters, cooking schools, community pools, etcs. There’s not really a face for the town, you know how Beyoncé is to Houston, Meek to Philly, Baby to Atlanta! They use their success and power for the actual greater good of the bad that they come from. I want that for my city, someone to give them hope. Something we didn’t have a lot of growing up. My environment, my statistically like hood of not being great, that’s what inspired my success. Greenwood, MS and the struggle to beat the odds is what inspired me to say hey this is it, I don’t want to just be good at cooking anymore, I want to go harder!
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I think what set Pee’Z kitchen aside from everyone else is the open mind that I have for the business. I’m really excited to keep working hard so that I can open my line of different varieties of food trucks here in Atlanta. It took a lot of real grind, prayers, tears, and a lot of distancing to get where I am. Although I haven’t made it far yet, I constant try to prepare myself for all the cards life is going to deal me. It’s never easy trying to establish something coming from nothing, but with faith, the right attitude, and a lot of prayer and dedication it’ll all work out. I’ve learned that there’s nothing worth having, given in this world. I can’t wait to wake up one morning and look around me and be proud of what I built from the ground up. I want the world to know that Pee’z Kitchen is coming and I can guarantee you it’ll be some of the greatest food that’ll ever hit your tongue!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’d definitely have to take my best friend to Ponce Market up to the sky view. It’s definitely a scene and a cool vibe just to take it all in. We’d definitely have to hit up Harolds, a favorite little spot of ours. We love their mozzarella triangles. My girl love some crab legs so we have to fall through The Boiler. It is also a must I make us a cute little lunch so that we could picnic in Piedmont and catch the vibes out there. Night life of course we have to catch our spot Gold Room, and more than likely Flame for an after spot! Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I definitely owe most of the credit to God and my mom. When the world said no, they pushed me to keep going!
