We had the good fortune of connecting with Poppin Polly and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Polly, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
POLLYMETICS orgin story is my favorite story to tell. I was 18 and a first semester college student seeing a nursing degree. In my heart of all hearts I knew that helping people was my passion, yet college and nursing wasn’t my purpose. One day, in the deepest of ruts and depression, I turned to an old pound of Shea butter my mother had saved from my childhood, when she would make my hair products. I whipped some body butter and made an exfoliant just to do some at home self care. I had the epiphany to start a business that very night and turned to the Internet. My social handles were already Poppin Polly and thus POLLYMETICS came to me naturally. From there, I created an entire business over the span of a few weeks. I love my story because you can turn any situation, no matter how dark it may appear, into a story of love and light. Now I aid in transforming skin and perfecting natural beauty. I couldn’t be happier with the decision I made that night !

What should our readers know about your business?
POLLYMETICS was founded October of 2018. The business began with four products and from there, we have 15 all year products and we feature annual products as well. Pollymetics thrives on providing the consumer with natural products that they can feel good about ! What sets us apart is our drive to provide people of color with quality products that they can afford and that are effective. Of course, nothing worth having every comes easy and there has been some hiccups along the way navigating a business as a young black woman. I find the biggest obstacles are rooted around the business aspect of operation, such as licenses, LLCs and legal work. However, I am so passionate about my business, I do not qualify the day to day hassles as challenges but instead learning opportunities. Along the way, I have learned that your biggest supporters will not know you personally and that is okay. I have also learned to believe in myself and beat my own drum as the ensemble will inevitably follow ! POLLYMETICS is for the people, the everyday consumer, we are all about fun and love and light and I plan to use this opportunity to tremendously aid the community. It is in my long term goals for POLLYMETICS to have a foundation and eventually rec centers and after school programs in inner cities, teaching kids to love themselves and one another and helping struggling homes! TOGETHER , we can be the change that we want to see!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My favorite hang out is the Little 5 points, East Atlanta Villages area. My grandmother, who is one of the biggest loves of my life , lives down the street and I have so many memories of visiting all of the vintage stores.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to personally thank anyone that has supported me, through purchases, sharing my work or sending me inspirational messages. Without you guys, this whole dream would simply be that… a dream.
