We had the good fortune of connecting with Pilar Jewell and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Pilar, why did you pursue a creative career?
I have always been shy. Since I can remember, I have always found it difficult to effectively express myself. So in high school, maybe around the 10th grade, I was introduced to the poetry club. From the first club meeting, I felt home. I was surrounded by so many talented artists and writers. So, from then on, poetry became almost like a release for me. Since then, I have written countless poems and I have released 3 books.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My poetry is a combination of my own thoughts, fears, and personal and indirect experiences. The challenge with me writing was and is that I am my own worst critic. I have written so many poems and stories but discarded them because I felt that they weren’t good enough. To be honest, I even question the work that I have publish. I constantly have thoughts of “Will they like it?” “Will I offend people?” “What will people think of me?” But I realized that if I don’t put myself out there, then I will never know how far my work will take me. I want people to know that my work may make you cry, smile, angry. It will possible make you feel every emotion there is. If I touch just one person, then I have done what I have been called to do.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well first we would brunch at Gocha’s Breakfast Bar. Then we would of course do some shopping at Lennox mall. We would also go to Six Flags because I’m a big kid at heart or even Main Event. For dinner we might go to Benihana in Buckhead. But since Corona is still going on, we may just chill at my place most times.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I simply just want to thank anyone who has read my work, The encouragement, love, and appreciation means so much to me.
