Meet Phylisia Slim | Model & Author

We had the good fortune of connecting with Phylisia Slim and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Phylisia, how do you think about risk?
Risk is something I never really think about while I’m in the situation. It’s not like I’m thinking “Oh, this is going to be risky…let me careful.” No, instead I don’t realize it’s risky until after I conquered the mission. Being a teen mom, while modeling and becoming an author there were a lot of risks I had to do mainly because a lot of people didn’t know nor care to know that I was a parent first who have dignity as to what I will do and won’t do. Especially in the modeling career there are a lot of opportunities that will land on your lap but you have to determine if this will benefit your brand or will it harm it? There are also situations you will have to learn from by taking the risks also. I have to say all the risks I took in my life I would never take it back now because it’s what made me who I am today.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
A little about my art in one word is: “Multitalented “. I have to say there is a lot that I do at once. For a lot of people who doesn’t know much about me I have to say one of my first passion would have to be writing, then it was dancing, next modeling, and now acting. I think what sets me apart from the rest would have to be; you just never know which talent I chose to do at that timing. I may be in the mood where I just want to be reserved and write, then a couple of months later I want to be spontaneous and show some dancing moves or model prints. Now don’t get me wrong I can’t say doing all of this is easy. Because it is far from easy; there are a lot of times where I will feel unsecured and confused as to what I’m doing with my life but then I have to remind myself that I am different for a reason and nothing is wrong with that. Believe it or not but therapy and writing did help me a lot. The main thing I would love the world to know about myself is to stop judging the book by it’s cover. I’m more than just an pretty, model type of girl….I’m also an smart, strong woman who can wear multiple hands and still rock it!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well, I have to say when I was younger I use to know about a lot of spots. Now. A little older we would have to find places together lol. With so much going on, honestly I really don’t be having time to just check out places like that. Yea, I know I need some more personal time lol. But I do enjoy intimate quite places a lot. I love to meditate and be by the water a lot while listening to birds.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would love to give a shout-out to my lil man, my son Kamari who has always motivated me to always chase my dreams regardless of the situation. Also my family who have driven me to prove that nothing is impossible no matter where you start from. Shout-out to my fans who have always supported me in every project I do. Last but not least, I have to give the most love to my Father above! Thank you God for giving me such an wonderful gift, I will always have gratitude for this.
