We had the good fortune of connecting with Peytan Gibbs and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Peytan, why did you pursue a creative career?
I pursued am artistic/creative career because I am am an artistic/creative person. Ever since I was born I was always the hand on creative child. I loved to build and make things out of nothing. I have 2 siblings, an 20 year old brother and a 15 year old sister I’m the middle child. I was the one in school that never fit in. I was the one always being left out of the joke. I was the one who sat alone during lunch. I knew I was different. By the age of 9 I was seeing girls with extensions and I wanted them for myself but my mom couldn’t afford it. So I went in her closet and got her old extensions and used hair bows to clip them in my hair. I remember I was so I love with the look. Around the age 11 my little sister started wanting her hair done and I was so quick to say, “I can do it for you”, With no hesitation. My sister wanted braids so that’s what I gave her. The first time I did it, It was a braided mohawk. The second time she wanted individuals, that was when they first started getting popular. As I did my sister hair over and over again I could see my improvement. Next thing you know I’m 17 year old hair stylist doing my sister hair, mother’s hair, my friends hair, and a lot of other family members. I love hearing the complaints every time me, my mom and sister go out knowing that it’s my work and also knowing I put a lot of time and effort into my work. Also I’m a content creator. I love to record my daily life and give people a sneak peek of what’s it’s like being a hair stylist. But being on camera is something I’ve been doing since I was a baby and I love being in front of the camera.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I feel as if I’m different from others because for one I started and knew what I wanted to do at a very young age. I am a very determined and sophisticated person and will never stop until I get to the top and even when I do, I still will have more to do. I am most proud and excited about me being where I’m at while I’m still young and I’m excited to see how far I can go. The only way I got to where I’m at now professionally is by me keeping my head up not listening to anyone because they’re not living my life or doing my job for me. This was not an easy process but the way I overcame my challenges was by taking it day by day, step-by-step and eventually you see your progress and don’t give up if everything doesn’t happen right when you wanted to. A listen I learned along the way is how to be patient and taking my time at my craft. I want the world to know that my brand is very time consuming. There’s a lot of work, and time put into every head that comes into my salon.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I live in Atlanta Georgia and I would take my friends Downtown Atlanta to view the city. We will most likely eat at juicy crab because my favorite food is seafood and I love their restaurant. We will probably go to Starbucks and get refreshers because I love the dragon fruit pineapple lemonade. I would love to visit the trap museum downtown Atlanta because I always wanted to go and never went. We will most likely go hang out at Atlantic Station or Colony Square because it’s very nice there and I love taking pictures there. When you comfort lemon, they are lots and lots of things to do. For example, we have Atlanta zoo, The Aquarium, Six Flags, all types of museums, skating, and much more.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would love to shoutout my family because if it wasn’t for them I would be here. I want to shout out my friends for supporting my business and all of the encouragement. I wouldn’t say with out the support I would have given up but having it help me out a lot. Most of all I’m proud for believing in myself and never letting no one talk me out of doing and being who I wanna be.
