We had the good fortune of connecting with Peter & Cindy Kapas and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Peter & Cindy, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Film making and content creation has been a long time hobby of ours, especially during the pandemic when many people turned towards social media to connect with others. Short videos have been in high demand for marketing, social awareness and entertainment purposes. We saw an opportunity to leverage our skills to help others bring their vision in front of millions of people.

What should our readers know about your business?
We’re a media business that specializes in cinematic videography and photography. We like to dabble in a little bit of everything since we are a fairly new business. We have done event coverage, social media content creation, real estate, restaurant menu photography, and promotional business videos. I think it’s not as common to find a husband and wife team that works directly with their clients. We handle everything within our business to keep it going strong. So when you call or email, you’re speaking directly with us. We truly love the storytelling aspect of our work so we put in a lot of effort to understand the story behind our clients and their business. It’s important to us to portray our clients as authentically as possible and bring their vision to life.

We have never ran our own business before so starting this business was a huge learning curve. We have been valuable lessons learned and we’re glad we learned them early so we can pivot and improve our business so that our clients have an even better experience with our services, It’s hard to not take things personally when you make mistakes, but these experience have taught us to grow thicker skin and be more confident in our abilities.

Cultural diversity is also really important to us. We care a lot about who and what we represent. We have done a lot of work in the food industry and what we love about it is that food really brings people together no matter where you come from. We care a lot about our own cultural heritage and it’s always fun learning about other cultures.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We like to cater to our guest’s interests. For our nature loving friends, we like to take them to explore towns like Helen. Dahlonega, Blue Ridge, or Asheville. We make a point to visit plenty of waterfalls like Tallulah, Anna Ruby, DeSoto, and Toccoa. For our city friends, we’ll take them to a few food halls like Chattahoochee Food Works, Ponce City Market, or Krog Street Market. We’ll often walk/scooter the beltline and almost always grab Jeni’s ice cream along the way. We also like exploring the botanical gardens and seeing the different exhibits they have or take a stroll in Piedmont Park to people watch. Sometimes we’ll go vintage shopping or do some duck pin bowling at The Painted Duck. We like to check out the farmer’s market in Grant Park and swing by Elsewhere Brewery for a bite and a beer. We’re big foodies so a visit to Buford Highway is also a must and grabbing quality Korean barbecue at places like SsamJang or Bene Steakhouse.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
From Peter’s Side: My visual arts teacher, Cameron Crouch, opened my eyes and influenced my journey to film making. While many of my peers approached his class as an opportunity to have fun with editing, I found myself captivated by the rich history of filmmaking. I became deeply engrossed in analyzing what made certain movies so compelling and why they resonated so powerfully with audiences. I soon realized that filmmaking isn’t just about having the best equipment or actors; it’s about the synergy of talented individuals and the tools they use to bring each element together in a way that evokes a specific emotion in every shot. Just like a composer brings together talented musicians that bring their music to life. Cameron’s guidance helped me grasp these essential insights, transforming my hobby into a passion that others began to admire.

One of my favorite movies of all time has to be Gattaca (1997), that Cameron introduced us to. Its an American dystopian science fiction film where the main character was born into a world where his genetic background invalidated him from certain jobs as “not fit”. His dream was to make it into outer space, but he was not born to do so, so he decided to do just about anything to defy his odds and make it a reality, no matter his genetic limitations. The storyline in Gattaca resonates deeply with many, including myself, as it reflects a universal experience—the moments when others doubt our potential based on our background or upbringing. However, I firmly believe that with determination and the courage to embrace the right challenges, each of us holds the power to achieve our dreams. Our origins do not define our limits; It’s our determination and the choices we make that shape our future.

From Cindy’s Side: When I first had an interest in photography, I sought out two great mentors that were already in the industry and have guided me not only through the challenges of learning photography, but also the doubts I had in myself as a business professional. So I’d like to say a big thank you to Tina Loveridge and Renoda Campbell for being the support I needed and allowing me to come along with them on their shoots.

As nerve wracking as it was to walk away from my corporate job and commit to starting a business, I knew there was no better time to start than now. It honestly felt lonely and still does, but I thank my friends, Sam & Wenter who run a successful bakery, in helping me overcome my fears and provide their continuous support on this new journey.

Lastly, the biggest shoutout goes to my husband, Peter. Without him, we wouldn’t have been able to start this business. It feels amazing to wake up everyday and know I can confide in him. I love that we can work together and pursue our passions. The best part is being able to do work we care about and help the community. Thank you for always being my biggest believer and believing in us.
