We had the good fortune of connecting with Patrick Martian and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Patrick, why did you pursue a creative career?
I honestly felt from a very young age what I came here to do was to make art and create. As time goes on I find different mediums that invigorate my spirit. So far my absolute favorite medium is pen and ink! Making a career from what I love is truly a gift that keeps giving. I love drawing monsters and deformed beings so much. I love the reactions people get when they see something i’ve done. I never know what to expect with people and how they perceive my work which is exciting to me and enriching.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art has evolved over the years naturally. I have always been attracted to the dark side of things as far back as I can remember! Anything spooky gets my attention. What sets me apart from others from what I hear is people know its my work when they look at it. I’ve been told my artwork is distinct . I’m where I am professionally by being unrelenting. I may have taken some breaks but i never quit. I over came challenges by enduring the more rough moments and staying as grounded as i possibly can I want the world to know i’m here to be a safe haven for the misunderstood and the underdogs. I always saw myself as an outsider and my brand is for the outsiders who prefer their own company.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The very first place I would take them is L5P of course! My favorite neighborhood in Atlanta! We would eat at the Vortex and visit the ABV Gallery off Auburn! We would hang out at the doll’s head trail. Check out the Star Bar, Night Owl Oddities of course for crystals and cool curiosities.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My folks know who they are but i’m going to shout out my mother Gail, My younger brother Gerrod, They continue to be an immensely supportive force in my life! So many people over the years have encouraged me! My aunts Brandi, Robin Joyce and Tracy, my grandmother Pat, my friends Kerri S, Amber H, Shimoye P! Shout out to Benjamin Lande an overall gifted artist who has given me priceless advice over the years! Shout out to my wonderful people at Night Owl Oddities located in the southside, Ash and Jess, they’ve given me so many opportunities and have inspired me immensely!
