We had the good fortune of connecting with Patrick Hodge and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Patrick, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I started my brand when I was 17 years old and the thought process behind Katastrophy Global wasn’t solely to start a business but to express my creativity in an art form that everyone would learn to love. I just turned 24 years old this year and I still have the same mindset. I wanted people to see the growth of my brand overall because people may know that “Catastrophe” is something that causes damage or is seen in a negative light but I wanted “Katastrophy Global” to be the complete opposite. I want to show the world that you can always turn a negative into a positive.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I know something that sets me apart from others is my attention to detail and creating pieces that nobody has ever seen before. I am most proud that Katastrophy Global has made it to the BillBoards in Time Square,NY for New York Fashion Week 2024. I got to where I am today by solely just taking risks for myself and constantly stepping outside my comfort zone. The journey of doing something that you truly love is never easy when you start from scratch. I had to learn to look at my losses as lessons and I think when we as people are disappointed in ourselves we choose to let it continue disappoint us but that’s not the case at all. Instead we should let that fuel our creativity or our passions. I have made some of my best work through difficult times in life but my grandma would always tell me “Walk by faith and not by sight” and that quote has always gotten me through rough times in life especially with my brand. I want the world to know that Katastrophy Global is solely art in my eyes before I even look at the fashion aspect of it. The pieces that I make even now are all handmade by me and I feel as though that each collection tells its own story.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take them to the Atlanta Breakfast Club for breakfast and go to Full Circle ATL for shopping because who doesn’t love to shop? I would then take them to Piedmont Park to just get a bit of fresh air. I honestly like to walk when I’m in the city because I always find something new whether it’s graffiti or even a new restaurant. We would then go to the High museum of art to look at the exhibits and go to Atlantic station for a movie and food.
