We had the good fortune of connecting with Patricia Robinson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Patricia, what habits do you feel helped you succeed?
I find that being organized and time management skills are key habits when you want to succeed. Many people love balloons, but do not understand the level of complexity that goes into balloon art and what they may deem as “just balloons”. Balloon art takes creativity, education, skill, time, and a lot of patience. Time management is important because you may or may not have the time you need to create and setup your balloon art. In the event you have less time, there’s some pre-planning you have to do prior to the event. If you have multiple events to setup, it is important to create a plan and stick to it so you do not fall short.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
StickUp Artistry & Design helps clients celebrate all occasions by providing high-quality balloon art and services. What makes StickUp Artistry & Design different from other balloon art businesses is that I incorporate small elements of balloon twisting in my designs. Balloon Twisting is a fun and versatile way to mold and bend balloons to take on any shape. Balloon Twisting allows me, as an artist, to express my creativity and open a kaleidoscope of structures that I design. I found that these added elements enhance the balloon experience and adds a signature to my balloon art pieces that makes me stand out from other balloon artist.

I enjoy using outdoor elements to showcase my artwork. Georgia has so many areas where you can find beautiful street art. I find that these vibrant art pieces enhances the way I create my balloon art and it also creates a stylistic background for the pieces I create. I like to put my art up against other street artist I enjoy and admire.

My proudest moment to-date has to be creating a balloon art experience for the one year anniversary of Bar Rescue’s, Jon Taffer, owner of Taffer’s Tavern. This was important for my company because Bar Rescue has been on TV for eight seasons, airing over two hundred episodes. Jon Taffer, with over 40 years of experience, is considered a leader in the nightlife industry.

In addition to my balloon work, I have been invited to participate and teach balloon twisting techniques at the first “Lou and Lee Events and Designs” balloon convention taking place June 24th – 25th. I am honored to participate, teach, and create for this major event.

The life of a balloon artist has both rewarding and challenging moments. Clients love the work that you do, but the financial investment for this artistry can be challenging. It’s a wonderful feeling when you can create the vision your client has, but with that vision, comes a particular cost.

In conclusion, the ultimate goal is to have a gallery that will showcase my balloon art and open up a creative space for other balloon artists. There’s no bar to reach for the world of Balloon artistry. If you can plan a design, you can find a way to bring it to life with balloons.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Atlanta has so many things to see and do. The culture is rich and ever changing. If my best friend was in town for the week, we would do the following:

·        Indoor skydiving at iFLY- This indoor skydiving event is fun and full of adrenaline

·        Krog Street Tunnel – Explore a kaleidoscope of colors via street art by local artists

·        Illuminarium – This digital adventure is fun for all ages and sizes

·        Poor Calvin’s –  Enjoy the best Thai cuisine at this specialty crafted boutique restaurant

·        Ponce City Market food tour – If you are a certified “foodie” you have to try all the mouthwatering meals and treats to choose

·        The Atlanta Botanical Garden- Stroll through a variety of plants, flowers and plant structures

·        The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra – Sit back and listen to the soothing sounds of the 200 piece orchestra

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have a strong support system of friends and family who are always supporting me and encouraging me to do more to expand my business. They read articles I write, send pictures of balloon designs/techniques, donate/volunteer time to assist with a balloon event, and offer constructive criticism when needed. My friends and family talk about my balloon artwork and refer me at every opportunity. My support system helps me not be so critical of myself and celebrate every opportunity. As an artist, you’re always looking at your creation for what you did wrong or how you can improve. The circle that I have continues to provide the encouragement I need when tackling stressful situations, creating a balance of family-work life, expanding my business ventures and I am truly grateful.
