We had the good fortune of connecting with Patrice Canty and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Patrice, every day, we about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
The idea of my business was birthed through a health scare. Back in 2018 I was diagnosed with having Intracranial Hypertension and the whole time the doctors was explaining to me what it was and trying to figure out why I hadn’t experienced any of the major symptoms such as temporary blindness, seeing black spots, or even fainting the word Purpose kept coming to me and after the appointment just in my daily living the word Purpose would always present itself and I also have an organization called Women IN Purpose that I created back in 2015 and I chose it at that time because I thought it was a cool name, not knowing 3 years later it would be an extension of my brand.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I work with teenagers, teaching them lifeskills to help them be successful and productive citizens. Our organization goes deep into those neighborhoods that some folks are scared to walk in and meet the parents and youth where they are and help them to grow. My determination and my AUTHENTIC love for people is what sets me apart, people are naturally drawn to me because I present myself as me and folks connect with that, that’s another thing that helps me to connect with the youth, I have lived the life’s they are living and even though it may not be the same circumstances, I am able to relate without judgment. I honestly got to where I am right now because someone believed in me enough to say, “you have so much to offer the world and I won’t stop until I find a position for you”. When people believe in you off the strength of the character of the person you are, you have made it in my book. I want the world to know that my journey was not created in a day and neither was my brand, this has taken a lot or prayer, sacrifice, losses, persistence, and seasons of solitude. My brand is me and I am my brand, so we both are growing and evolving into what we are destined to be. I haven’t heard God say, “Job well done my good and faithful servant” so its still work to do.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Augusta: Places to eat: Humanitree House (awesome pure vegan food), Broad Street Bullies Grill, Chop House, Soy Noodle House, Olivianas Bars/Drinks: Tribeca Lounge, Cliffism’s Bar and Grill, and Edgar’s Grille, Ikonz Sports Bar Fun: Top Golf, Mastermind Escape Games, live bands
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Its honestly so many people that drives me to dig deeper and be the best version of myself: Makyah (my daughter), Tina (my mother), Julia (my grandmother), my circle of trusted friends (they know who they are lol). On the celebrity side Raynell Stewart and Eric Thomas. All of these people are motivation and driving forces for me, through them I see what grit, determination, and resilience can get you…..the power of never giving up, you may get wounded, but never stop moving.
