We had the good fortune of connecting with Parchelle Tashi and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Parchelle, putting aside the decision to work for yourself, what other decisions were critical to your success?
A couple years after I quit my job as a teacher to pursue my business full time, I was invited to move to Philadelphia and merge my company with a leading production company there. It was a great deal and I was so excited, but within months, the deal fell apart, and I was in a new city, without an income or any real savings. It was a failure, and I thought I was too.
At this point, I was faced with a big decision: Either I go back to my family in Virginia with my tail between my legs, or I stay in this new city and just keep going. Deciding to stay and figure it out put me on a path of self-discovery and personal growth. Hustle took on a new meaning for me, so did being uncomfortable. Within 3 years, my company doubled, my network exploded, and our client roster expanded beyond what I ever imagined! Philly definitely has a special place in my heart, and it reminds me that everything’s always working out for us.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My business is called 36,000 ft, and we specialize in quality video production for online courses. What sets us apart is our experience in education, and as a co-founder, I get to pull from my Master’s in Curriculum and Instruction while directing to ensure the visuals support the learning.
Getting here was not exactly easy, but worth it! The biggest challenge recently has been in saying NO to projects and opportunities that don’t fit our vision. Having produced all types of videos over 10 years, deciding to begin choosing our projects and who we partner with has been empowering to say the least.
To overcome the challenges, my team and I have truly embraced growth on a personal level, and continue to make that our focus. We’re finding that when we go within, we are able deal with the source of our blocks, and execute our business plans with clarity and confidence. Taking the time to identify what matters to us most, and honor it has been the biggest shift for us.
I want the world to connect with our company name. At an altitude of 36,000′ aircrafts are flying their fastest and farthest, while using the least amount of fuel. We believe that when we are in our natural genius and teaching what we know best, it’s like being on a plane. We’re carried to our desired destinations in life, and are able to generate wealth and leave a legacy.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend were visiting here in San Diego, we would certainly spend a good amount of time enjoying the outdoors. We’d grab some tacos, enjoy a conversation at Sunset Cliffs, and do a little shopping at the mall, which is also outdoors.
There’s so much to do. We could also hit a farmer’s market, visit a dispensary, go out to eat in Coronado, have breakfast in La Jolla with the seals, check out a museum in Balboa Park, enjoy some live music, or take a drive to Julian to try some famous apple pie.
Los Angeles isn’t that far away, so either a nice drive (or train ride) up the coast would be fun too! I love living here!! Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’m dedicating my shoutout to my family, namely my parents. Sometimes I consider myself to be the black sheep of my family; just different. I’ve heard a number of stories of people who were disgraced and cut off from their families for being different. My family continued to love and embrace me, even when things didn’t make sense or they didn’t fully agree. At the end of the day, without their love, I wouldn’t be who I am today.
