We had the good fortune of connecting with Pamela Heyward and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Pamela, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My thought process behind starting my own business was wanting to create a legacy. When you realize that you have a gift, you want to give it on a larger scale than where you are at the moment. You also want to leave it for your future generations to innovate, especially if you’re around to see the wonderful changes they implement with what you’ve handed to them.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I run a small, yet, growing, full-service event planning and design company. I like to think that what places me in my own zone, if you will, is my ability to connect with my clients on such a level that I am able to create an event that reflects who they are, the things they love and truly bring their visions to life. My business slogan is, “Planning with a Personal Touch” and I think my clients walk away truly feeling like they had that. That’s what I’m most proud and excited about; connecting with people on that level and simply making it happen.

How I got to where I am today business-wise is giving more. I believe in giving what is asked for as well as adding more in terms of the personal touch. A transaction can merely be a transaction, but, when you add that ‘special touch’ to something, it makes it all the more special and meaningful.

Was it easy? NO! Nothing worth having in life ever is. This is hard work and very labor intensive. I overcome the challenges because of the love of what I do. It also helps to have people willing to get into the trenches with you, because they want to see you succeed. That means more to me than all of the money in the world.

One of the biggest lessons I learned along the way was to NEVER quit your day job! Not having the knowledge and guidance that I have now, sometimes we think we can just jump right in with no life raft. Business building is a process and you need resources to help you in the ebbs and flows.

My brand and story is one that I liken to the metamorphosis of a butterfly. Life sometimes hands you things that you didn’t ask for or expect, but, if you hang in there and go through the process, you will fly and you won’t look like anything you did before forming into who you are truly mean to be.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
This question makes me feel a little boring! Lol! I’m a big fan of scenic places such as Marietta Square, Centennial Olympic Park and Downtown Atlanta. I love walking and talking and just taking in an area. I’d take them to the Tubman Museum in Macon and the State Botanical Garden of Georgia.

I’d also take them to a concert at the Mableton Amphitheater and the City Winery in Atlanta. A Paint ‘n Sip would also be on the schedule, as well as some dinners at smaller Mom & Pop restaurants throughout the city.

I love to cook, so, some homemade meals would definitely be on the agenda.

These are the most fun, interesting things for me.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My son Tim, who has been my inspiration in so many ways.
