We had the good fortune of connecting with Paige Jack and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Paige, why did you pursue a creative career?
When I was in third grade I was interviewed about why we needed to keep art in school. It has always been a pull for me as a way to express our feelings and the way we say life. I don’t think I pursued a creative career I think it chose me. My father is an artist, and my life has been surrounded by people following their art and listening to God. We are all born with certain gifts and insights. I create because it is my gift. With my gift I can uplift, make space for other artists to be seen and be heard in ways that are intentional.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Currently I work as the Maketing and Engagement Coordinator for an NPR Music Station, Director of Creativity & Culture for the Trenches Gallery, Operator at SP Design Firm, and Co-Owner of Aviary Co. So I wear a lot of hats, but one common bond is creative work. I have found a way to combine my love of art and business. For example in my work with NPR music, my role allows me to push for ways to empower artists and redefine their reach in the community but on a more personal level I have a deep connection to music and its history, the emotions it provokes, and the movement that emanates from an intoxicating performance. The meld of art and business is never easy but I was blessed with people who taught me how to run creative businesses. I have worked with and for incredibly talented women and men who knew what they were great at and hustled, hard. I watched them work, network, fight for recognition, create businesses and connections that have shaped the way I move today. And that is everything with intention. That would be the most important lesson I have learned along the way. Whether it is curating an event or throwing a party. What is the intention behind my movement? Am I doing this to empower art? Am I using this money to feed my community? Will this change someone’s dream? Everything myself and me team do is part of an intention. That is what I would want the world to know about my brand and my story. It is reflective of my choice to ensure all of my work and the projects I am a part of are guided and led by an intentional movement to serve others.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Any day of the week I would definitely hit up EG&MC and Plain Jane they have some of the best drinks, More specifically Taco Tuesday and brunch on Sundays at EG&MC hit.

During the day definitely stop in by The Trenches Gallery owned by brothers Keith & Kristian Fulton. The Trenches Gallery doubles as an art gallery and streetwear store focusing on black owned designers and craftsmen. It’s located in the historic Buchanan arts district.

Taking a stroll down the Buchanan Arts District gives a great feel of richness of the community.

While on Buchanan I would definitely say slide across the street and get some pizza and cinnamon rolls at Slim & Husky’s.

My friends and I love museums so I would probably take them to the National Museum of African American Music. It celebrates the many genres that have come from black people and their influence on music over the years.

Taking a journey through North Nashville, specifically down Jefferson street, gives a great glimpse into the artistry and history of the city. You can see the different types of art and varying influences of music and culture in the North Nashville community.

The Farmers Market – is a great place to find fresh and local produce and diverse cuisine
Shelby Park
Silver Sands Soulfood – amazing

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to shoutout all of the people who have recommended me and trusted in my work. It is truly appreciated when my peers or mentors recommend me for projects or events. They inspire me because they remember to reach back, to sup0port me and other creatives. They move with intention and understanding. There is an understanding of how growth and work can be shared within the community and thanks to their love and support I can do the same for someone else.
