We had the good fortune of connecting with PaDrino J and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi PaDrino J, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Honestly taking risks plays a big part in why I’m doing everything I do today. Taking risks to quit a day job to pursue being a full time artist/content creator running my own business. Or when it comes to expressing myself in my work and putting it out hoping the world enjoys it or at least can feel something from it. You never truly know what the outcome will be from taking a risk but I believe it’s good to take them because they can present opportunities or teach you something new.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I never like to put myself in a box when it comes to a lot of things, especially when creating. Just from art alone whether it’s photo/videography or making music I’ve had the chance to meet and collaborate with many different artist/brands (major & local) so that’s always exciting. Plus it’s also a way for me to express how I’m feeling since I’m not too outspoken. Something I’d say I’m proud of is me getting out and building the life and career I want plus having work published in movies, on billboards and magazines. I think those are some pretty big milestones just to be a few years in my career with more to come. Even with all the great stuff that’s come in these past few years I’ve still had things that challenged me. For one I’m pretty much self taught with everything so I’m constantly running into things I’m not sure how to do and have to go learn. I’m also an introvert with extrovert qualities, so networking is a big thing because I love to meet new people but it took some time to build up to that point. And as far as a lesson I’ve learned it would be that to make it to the top of whatever field you’re in just having skills or talent is only a small percent, there’s a lot of work that has to be done behind the scenes in order to get to the next level.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
There are plenty of different vibes out here in Columbus so as far as the food I’d take them to the Fireproof restaurant, The Eagle, hit Brio’s for some Italian or canes and chipotle for the quick meals. Then if we want to go create we would go up to a recording studio or Goodlife Studios, one of the top photo studios out here and the owner Tucker Gilkerson makes sure it lives up to its name and keeps the good vibes up there. Then just to kick it and have fun we go to the Royal Cigar Lounge to meet up with my good friend Ryan Newman, then we would hit OSU campus or this rooftop lounge Mandrake for the night life.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I get a lot of support from my family or just people that end up liking my work and I appreciate every bit of it so big thanks to anyone that’s ever showed love or support. If I were to give a shoutout though it would be to my inner friend group. Over the years I’ve been thankful to be able to call them more than that though, they are my team, business partners and my brothers as well. They have been support, inspiration, will hype me up like I’m the greatest in the world and be the first to humble me in the same sentence. I can’t do nothing but appreciate that and be the same for them. There’s a couple of them so shoutout to Count, Adam, Hvze and the rest of my Tell Ya brothers!
