We had the good fortune of connecting with Omari King and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Omari, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor behind the success of BOGASKI is the meaning. The meaning behind the brand is “Because Only God And Self Kan Influence”. This is something that everyone can relate to. When it comes to this thing we call “Life”, you are in control of your own destiny. There is nothing that you can’t achieve as long as you give it your all. No person or obstacle is too big too conquer as long as you have faith.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Born and raised in Atlanta and being raised in the 80’s and 90’s, which some would call the hip hop era, I have had an opportunity to see this city really evolve. Growing up as a sneaker head, I pride myself on being fly at all times. My brand provides that. In addition to having a name that stands for something “Because Only God And Self Kan Influence”, it is my goal to provide the consumer with quality garments. This all started from an idea I had for a t-shirt. I was making a transition in my life and came up with an “I Survived The Game” concept. While I had no intention at that time to create a brand, the response that I got from that designed birthed BOGASKI. This process and transformation from an idea to a brand has not been easy. The hardest part is actually learning the business. Once you learn the business of actually securing vendors, fabric, etc.. the next part is the branding. My goal is to build a brand that can stand next to only other high fashion designer/brand that is out there!!!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Atlanta is full of hidden gems for small black entrepreneurs and our cities culture. For someone who has never visited the city, I would take the to the Auburn and Edgewood Ave district. This area of the city is full of black history/culture that out city was built on.
I would take them to either a Falcons, Braves, Hawks, or United game to experience the dedicated sports fans that we have.
I like to frequent a lot of black owned businesses, so for food I would take them to Triton Yards, Local Green Atlanta, Slutty Vegan, Edgewood Pizza, or any other of the various black owned restaurants in the city
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to shoutout my whole family for believing in my vision and pushing me to keep going forward even when times get rough.
