We had the good fortune of connecting with Omar Scarborough and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Omar, alright, let’s jump in with a deep one – what’s you’re definition for success?
The definition describes success as attaining, prosperity or fame. My definition of success is achieved and accomplished something that you aim for.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
In 2010 I decided to start my own film production company . The reason that I started my own production company is because I didn’t like what I was watching on T.V. ,or in movie theaters. I thought to myself that I could write better content, or shoot a particular scene the way that I wanted to see it. In the beginning it wasn’t easy. I didn’t know how to get my ideas pitched. Most studios will not take a meeting with you unless you’re signed to an agent or have a manager. I remembered I found this one lady who would managed me, but she wanted me to pay her 250$ for her to be my manager. I was so green. I paid it even though in the back of my mind it did not seem right. Long story short that contract lasted for a year. The thing that helped me alot was posted certain things on YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, and being consistent with my content. Once I started doing that people would start to notice my work. AvenueCity is company that is a umbrella for photography, a podcast network, branding agency. I want AvenueCity Productions to be a company like Rocnation. A household name.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m a season ticket holder to the Charlotte Hornets. My seats are right behind the goal on the floor. I would take a friend to the game , so they would have that encounter of sitting on the floor. Sitting on the floor makes you feel like you’re Spike Lee watching a Knicks game. After the game I would take a friend to a roof top bar that over look the Queen City skyline. I love non commercial restaurants. There are so many restaurants in Uptown Charlotte to choose from. End the night at a black own cigar lounge call Tailored Smoke. Love that place. It’s a vibe!!!!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to shot out my dad Larry Abdullah. My father is currently dying from stage 4 Cancer, However I watched my dad work 3 jobs, and raised my sister and I by himself. I seen him sacrifice his own personal needs and wants so my sister and I could have the basic essentials in life. He showed me how to never give up on anything even when it seems there is no light at the end of the tunnel.
