We had the good fortune of connecting with Omar Gause and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Omar, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I chose to pursue my music career because it’s an amazing outlet for me to express myself. Being able to express how I feel or just put my emotions or feelings into words has always been a struggle of mine, ever since I can remember I’ve always used music to help me. Music is my personal way of describing how I feel or at least being able to get it out when I feel like I can’t say it to anyone else, think of it as my personal journal. On top of that making music is one of the most fun things I’ve ever chose to do, the anticipation of how the song is gonna come out when I’m fully done working on it and the performance aspect is even better.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
As an artist I make many different kinds of music, I can sing, I can rap, I write and record all of my music as well as engineer it in my home studio. As an artist I want to be very versatile and and portray myself in the manner I see fit. The biggest struggles in my music were me not knowing what to make music about as well as being to timid to work with others. Over time I learned to overcome my struggle of not knowing what to make music about by realizing not every song has to be serious, music is supposed to be something that everyone can enjoy so just have fun. There’s times when you have to be serious and times where you can just enjoy yourself and really feel it. Secondly, I overcame my struggle of communication by surrounding myself with like minded individuals to gain new perspectives on music and overall learn to engage with other artists. With my music I want to show the world that you are not alone, with my music I want to inspire people and I want to help others as well as I want to make something me and my family can be proud of. I want my legacy to be respectable as well as I want to be known worldwide for my art, one day everyone will know the name Excel.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well personally I don’t know much about Atlanta due to the fact that I’m not from here nor have I been to many places here so I wouldn’t be the best person for this part but honestly the best parts about the city is the scenery that you get to see just from being outside, there’s so many pretty sights especially the sky and the floral areas. I’d recommend visiting little 5 points if you get the chance.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
During my journey as an artist there has been many people that I’ve met along the way but the biggest help was a music program called The South Side Soul. The South Side Soul is a program that was founded in Chicago illinois then was later brought into Atlanta Georgia. The program was presented to me by an old friend while the director was promoting it and I decided that maybe I should give it a try, and I am glad that I did. The program showed me how to connect and communicate with other artists as well as how to work with them, prior to the program it was somewhat difficult for me to communicate with other people but being around so many other artists for long periods of time expanded my ability to work together.
