We had the good fortune of connecting with Olivia Vogel and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Olivia, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I am originally from a small town in Western Nebraska. Being from a small town, my sisters and I tended to get bored easily. If we weren’t riding our bikes around town or going to practice, we were being creative. We get our creativity from both our parents. My dad was an architect meaning he is great at math but also great at design. I really do believe he could build anything with his hands. He can play multiple instruments and he can paint/draw. My mother was also creative with painting predominately. All of us had a Disney character themed room growing up. I think our parents played a HUGE roll in our creative minds. My first memory of my first creative adventure in drawing started before I was 7. We all were given tracing tables by my dad (it was the architect in him). I began tracing coloring books and eventually moved onto tracing the Disney vhs covers. Throughout middle school and high school, I spent most of my free time creating. I learned to cross stich and embroider from my grandma as early as 3rd grade, I made all my friends’ binder cover art that mainly consisted of block lettering and patterns, I braided all my teammates hair on the bus to games, I was always looking for a new pair of shoes to match my outfits or a new makeup edition at Kmart to make the look, I was always the main role in our home videos shot and scripted by my older sister, and the list goes on. We were allowed creativity at home and at school. From there I went on to be a part of many art competitions from high school into my early 20’s. My collaborative art is hanging from a grain elevator in Lincoln, NE, my high school had a painted fiber glass cow by me from a national competiton, and Lincoln, NE was adorned with another collaborative fiber glass painted sculpture. I decided to major in art in college after my small town sports dreams came to an end. I learned anything I could think of attending UNL, but I mainly focused in drawing and painting. I distinctly remember my painting teacher telling me he never worried once about me. He knew I would be successful in whatever I went into. After college, I dabbled in screen printing, cover art, and gown commissions. I obviously couldn’t stick to just one thing, so I started designing my own press on nails. Honestly, something about nails felt like my calling. I could paint on them, wear them, photograph them, create video content, and so much more! I recently moved to Atlanta to pursue my Press on Nail Career. That was long winded but that was my story. Thank you for asking!

What should our readers know about your business?
So, moving from my childhood background in art, we can step into the beauty world relating to nails. Originally, I just pictured them as miniature art. I had quickly come to find there is so much more to nails than I thought. The human body is so complex and needs proper attention when adding anything to it. So, after about a two years of my business being about, I got my Nail License. I feel having a large history in art and having an understanding of the human body related to nails is a huge separator from my brand and other press on nail brands. I’m also a person who obsesses over the details. I am naturally a sporadic person. But with the help of a few friends and family members, I’ve learned how organization in a business is a must. Recently, I’ve started FaceTiming friends at the salon I worked at. We started a mini planning meeting for growth. We call once a week and we keep track of what we’ve done every day that gets us closer to our goals. We kind of work backward from the big goal to the every day tasks. I create an agenda for myself every day, including personal tasks, and I reward myself either business wise or personal wise. Having organization honestly will cut out so many hurdles that will come your way as a business owner. I am planning my e journal right now so I can help others set work/personal boundaries and share my stories along the way of how I saw the daily diligence play out in my favor. I want others to know they aren’t alone in their journey to better themselves every day. Sometimes we just need a little help starting.

I don’t want it to seem that the bumps along the road weren’t there. I was only able to get through the lows with positivity and love given to me by friends and family. Having a support system is necessary when starting a business.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
So, I’ve only lived in Atlanta for 2 months, but I love Atlantic Station of course! I love Kilwins for a sweet treat. I love west midtown for a fun night out or a nice breakfast spot. My favorite breakfast spot is Snooze! It reminds me of a local breakfast place back in Nebraska. We’ve really enjoyed the environment of PuttShack as well. I just love that there are so many night life spots in Atlanta that are outside your norm (Nebraska Norm that is). Take your kids to Candytopia, you might have fun too! Going shopping is a must. We love to hit the plaza right in Buckhead where you can find Nordstrom. There are so many amazing places in Atlanta and we can’t wait to explore more.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Along with my previous comment about my parents creativity, I want to thank my friend Ana. She was an integral part in my business being as successful as it has. She is a marketing pr & ad major in Nebraska, originally from Brazil. She is an influencer and originally that was the way we met. But our friendship really was just beginning. She taught me every social media marketing strategy she could because she believes in the brand and where I see it going. She helped me start my first full website, we sat for hours photographing and designing it together. She has been my main influence through out the years, a should to cry on when times got hard, a social media manager, and a positive voice. She deserves a social media marketing role once she graduates. She understand it from a business side and an influencer side. She’s awesome & is going places!
