We had the good fortune of connecting with Olivia Garcia- Babka and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Olivia, what is the most important factor behind your success?
Honestly it’s the fact that I’m completely self taught. when I first wanted to start modeling everything in the world was still virtual due to covid. Any class I wanted to take to learn the basics were through zoom. I did take a few workshop classes for acting and modeling, but not actually being able to be hands on with a class made it that much harder. Finding the time while also trying to make sure the bills at home were paid was the hardest struggle. I was 21, just moved to Atlanta and was still trying to figure it all out! All while having doubts from my family and friends thinking I was pretty much crazy for going down this path. I knew it was meant for me. I’ve always been a creative ever since I was young. I always loved to sing, paint, and pretend to walk the runway in my moms heels. Although there are struggles in everything you do I’ve always been one to deal with the toughest ones. But that’s what has always made me who I am. I know I can always get through it with determination and hard work. Shoutout my dad for teaching me to always keep going no matter what. He’s the most dedicated person I know.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I think Art itself is so fascinating in all forms. It allows you to be whoever you want to be in its rarest form. I’ve always loved to inspire people and I think that’s what my purpose has always been here on earth. I believe that everyone has a different story, and that’s what makes us who we are, whether it’s good or bad. we have to make something out of it and I think that’s what sets me apart from others. I used a bad situation and let it drive me. For a long time I used to allow it to own me, and I didn’t know my true worth for a very long time. But now that I do I honestly feel unstoppable. Like I can do anything. It wasn’t easy to figure out, but once I did, I never felt better in my own skin. Being in front of the camera for the first time made me think for a second “ what am I doing???”but once we got started I felt alive and pure. That was a big lesson for me to learn and I think a lot of others probably struggle with that too in their own way. If I had one piece of advice to the world it would be to own yourself and who you are. It may bother some people but that doesn’t matter. At the end of the day as long as you are happy, doing what you love, no other opinions should matter.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If I had to name a few of my favorite spots here in Atl, they’d be Piedmont park for the view of the city and taste of nature, Ponce city market for the different food options and rooftop games and views, and lastly I’d have to say the strip in Roswell. They have so many great food options.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Even though I have always done everything on my own, there are a few people I’d like to give a shout-out too, because without their support, I wouldn’t have been able to keep on going! First I want to start with my boyfriend. Also known as Producer/ Artist 17baby, he has stuck by me since we were seniors in high school. Supporting me through anything I’ve ever wanted to do, but most importantly the work I’m doing right now. He always gives me advice, even the kind I sometimes don’t want to hear. and his drive for music has motivated me that I can do anything I want to do, if I put my mind too it. Second I want to give a shout-out to my Grandparents, who even though we are not blood related ( it’s complicated ) have stuck by me since the day I was born, and have made sure I’m good no matter what the circumstances may be. And lastly I want to shoutout my Mom and Dad. life was really hard for me growing up, and it wasn’t always rainbows and butterflies with our relationship. Sometimes it’s still hard, but the support they give me will always be valid. I wouldn’t be who I am if it wasn’t for them, and for that I’m forever grateful.
