We had the good fortune of connecting with Octavia Sims and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Octavia, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
The thought process behind starting my own business was simply from my own personal experience of not loving myself and seeing how my life was in chaos, and that’s when I realized I needed to change my life. I’ve always wanted to be an entrepreneur since I was 12. Personal development and entrepreneurship is my passion. I live and breathe for business and self growth so that’s why I became a self love coach and model. Modeling is actually something that’s more therapeutic for me and it allows me to release and be creative. It has also helped me build my confidence and worth for myself; which has helped me tremendously in being comfortable with myself. Being able to help other people is my purpose, so with my brand “Coach Bae” I’ve created journals, ebooks, apparel, and more to help people find their inner peace and manifest a healthier lifestyle.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I’m a Self-Love Coach and I love to inspire others that change is good, it’s not as scary as people make it seem. I teach people how to accept change and how to find love within themselves. I offer one on one sessions; with each session you’ll learn different things like: healing, shadow work, meditation, self care routines, and more. I offer 1 month or 3 month programs; with each program you’ll receive a self care box. In the self care box will include: 1 journal, 1 ebook, 1 t-shirt, 1 body butter, 1 candle, and a complimentary car freshener with a positive saying and refreshing scent.

I got to where I am in my business through research, research, and more research. Before I invest into something I have to do a lot of research about my niche, so that I can better help and accommodate people. I would never want to just throw anything out there and hope it does well, that’s where a lot of beginner entrepreneurs mess up. They do one week of research and put their products out. From my own personal experience that did the absolute worse for me starting a business. This has definitely been a hard journey. I’ve stayed up hours to make body butters and I’ve went from making $300 in a day to making $0 a day. Entrepreneurship is not for the weak-minded. That’s why it’s important to be disciplined and consistent, because not everything will go like you expect it to be.

The most challenging thing I’ve had to deal with was learning the hard way that you need a team of people who want it as bad as you do. I started out thinking “I can do all of this by myself”. That quite frankly was incorrect. When you’re trying to do everything yourself from creating labels, building a website, promoting on social media, etc. you will become stressed and discouraged. When I was discouraged I would do this pattern of being on and off with my business. That hurt me and my brand, because it showed people that I wasn’t taking myself or my business serious. If people can noticed that then trying to get business will become a challenge, because people aren’t going to want to work with you or buy your products. So become familiar with discipline and consistency.

I want people to know the real about business and personal life. Coach Bae is my brand for entrepreneurs “ Bad A** Entrepreneur”. In the near future, I want to develop an ebrand club that gives new entrepreneurs or existing entrepreneurs a place to call home. I’m going to host weekly/ monthly live Q&A for my members, along with courses, ebooks, ejournals, and more to help keep these entrepreneurs motivated and excited about them choosing to become an entrepreneur. Business shouldn’t always be so serious, have a little fun and be relatable. My brand will definitely be something epic and global.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’ve been in Atlanta for about a year now and my favorite spot so far is Catina’s taco near downtown Atlanta. They make the best tacos and drinks. I love piedmont park. Honestly I’m a homebody, so I haven’t really had the time to really explore Atlanta like I would like too. However in 2022 that’s all going to change.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My biggest supporters are my family and social media strangers (lol). My mom has always pushed me to be better and to not give up on everything, because when I was younger I use to start a lot of things and then quit them. However, now that I’m an adult, I’ve started seeing how hard your life can be when you’re inconsistent, but now that I’ve figured out how to be disciplined and consistent I’m able to see the growth in myself and my business. My dad, because he comes through with wise words. He always told me “In life you have to learn to take the crooked with the straights”. It took me awhile to understand that, but I definitely get it, because life happens but you must always remember to see the bigger picture of where you’re going. My sister has literally been by my side at every event I’ve had and that was really all I needed. A lot of people feel as though they need this huge group of people to feel successful or supported, but the true supporters are the ones that show up for you whether you have something small or big going for you. Without any of them I don’t know where I would be right now. My family has also been my biggest support when it comes to my daughter, I’ve had a lot of events to attend that didn’t allow kids and them being able to watch her and care for my child has helped me in so many ways and I’m extremely grateful for that. God has definitely blessed me with that type of support. I’ve also had plenty of spiritual mentors, one of my go-to is Destinee Morris; she does tarot and mentorship. She has literally helped me align myself through my journey of “learning self”. Next my classmates and teachers from Elaine Sterling Institute. I’ve never in my life met people who wanted to actually see students make better life choices while also receiving an education. They’re very supportive and passionate about their field of study and that means a lot to me. My classmates are just positive and made school fun.
