We had the good fortune of connecting with Octavia Cohen and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Octavia, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
The thought process behind starting my business is being unique and set apart from the others. I desired to design earrings that will accommodate several styles and colors while condensing the amount of earrings we accumulate. I love pairing colors that would seem odd yet unique in its own way.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a creative artist and my art ranges from painting wood jewelry, modeling to writing books and poetry. Designing jewelry was one of the most creative ideas that was given to me by the Creator. I am so grateful that I was given the vision to create something so unique yet so exquisite.
When it comes to representing my brand, excellent customer service has to be a key component. I treat my clients as the special people they are because I desire to be treated the same way. I have had many professional customer service trainings however, in addition to the training, it is also about how I was reared.
The valuable lessons I have learned along the way includes how to brand my business, consistent social media presence and writing down your weekly business goals, just to name a few.
I want the world to know that Copper Cohens and Shades of Blue: Alopecia Awareness will be making moves to have an international presence which will include online shopping as well as international speaking engagements.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Because I live in the country (a rural area), I would rent an Air BnB in Charleston, SC (or surrounding areas). I would hire a chef to create some healthy meals, primarily plant-based with some beautiful beverages created by a hired mixologist and a juice bar. I would also plan an extensive and inclusive spa day that includes facials, massages, mani/pedis, yoni steams etc. Hanging out includes dancing, local events. I would visit a Music in Motion to go skating, visit a few boutiques, Dellz, for example. We may take a road trip to Myrtle Beach or Savannah to experience a helicopter ride and shopping. I would take us to Mystic Healing Spa for more more body treatments. If my friend is into amusement rides, then we may visit Broadway on the Beach. We would definitely barhop for some live music because we both enjoy live music and dancing. A day or 2 of nothingness would be fitting due to all of these shenanigans…lol!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Yes, as a matter of fact, there are three people who I would like to recognize: Erica M. Alcox, Eleanor White-Chisolm and Nyisha Henry aka Georgia Nubia for contributing to my healing journey.
