We had the good fortune of connecting with Nyk La Bruja and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nyk La Bruja, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
Tarot comes from a sacred space. It’s a form of spirituality that draws you closer to God. With tarot, you’re communicating with your spirit guides to receive divine messages. In other words, it’s a tool for guidance and healing. Often times the media refers to tarot readings as something demonic when it reality it is a blessing from God.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My gift alone sets me aside from others. Not often will you run into someone who delivers messages from your departed loved ones. Because of how the media perceives tarot readings, I was fearful of how my loved ones would react towards my line of work. As a result I was met with anxiety. God diminished the doubts I was surrounded with and opened new doors for me. As fascinating as this gift is to others, it comes with a price. A challenging one. For example, During a hospital visit, I was guided by Spirit to deliver a message to a woman I didn’t know. She refused to receive the message. Spirit puts me in tough situations knowing most people don’t like the truth. Eventually people come to terms with it like the woman at the hospital who later returned to receive her message. During the process, I’ve learned the more I heal others, the more I will heal myself. My work revolves around healing and guidance towards spirituality.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We would head over enjoy nature at Sweet Water Park and Stone Mountain. Nature provides connection through the Universe and allows us to be grounded. We’ll also be heading to Midtown for the perfect balance between nature and night life. Eating at Hattie Mae’s Chicken, Sublime Donuts and Slutty Vegan will certainly be listed on the itinerary.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
All credit goes to God. It was God who blessed me with this gift and chose to use me as a vessel. I also can not thank my ancestors enough for guiding me throughout the process. During the start of my journey as a tarot reader, I was faced with the spirit of anxiety and hesitance. God and my ancestors paved the way for me to overcome my fears and be who I am today.
