We had the good fortune of connecting with NUNNABOVE and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi NUNNABOVE, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
As a family band, we are always together. You might think that we have the best of both worlds with respect to work-life balance, but we love joking around with each other so we had to develop ways to be more efficient with our time in order to make progress. Recently, we sat down and had a discussion about how our mindset around music as a career had to change. We had to work hard all the time in order to be successful. We had to prioritize our rehearsal time over other things.
Now we treat our rehearsal as if it were a 9-5 Job, 6 days a week. We start rehearsal at 7 and we end at 3 with a much more structured practice. After 3PM our work day is over and we can do whatever we want.
Another project we’re working on as a family is producing our brother’s cartoon “Bob’s World” https://youtu.be/dcLr_Zq92GY. Wisdom created the cartoon, our sister, Mattie writes the show, and the band composes and performs all of the music. Managing our time and the incredible talent that has signed on to help us is a challenge. Being very well organized is the only way we are able to do both the cartoon and our music. We’re making progress, and the quality of our rehearsal has increased greatly from making the decision to treat our career more like a job.
It was an important decision that we matured into, and it was difficult, especially since we are all very young and it’s the middle of summer vaction. Prioritizing work over social time was something that we used to dread, but we found that there’s a payoff to using our time more wisely.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
We believe that what sets us apart from other bannds is that we are a family. Our Sister Cadence (21) plays bass and sings lead, our sister Mattie (19) plays keys and sings backup, our brother Bennett (18) plays lead guitar and also sings backup, along with our brother Wisdom (16) our very talented drummer. We’ve spent the last 8 years playing together, honing our craft to acheive our shared dream of spreading as much positivity as we can. As siblings we’ve fought a lot over what we think is best for our music, our studio, and our outfits, but that crucible is what makes every peice of work that we put out better. We got to where we are today by holding each other accountable and making sure that our mindset stays focused on our goal. Writing music is one of the things we enjoy most about being in a band together, our songs are about sharing love and positivity, and we hope that each person who listens to them can get something positive out of them.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
