We had the good fortune of connecting with Nozipho Sibanda and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nozipho, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
Since deciding to start a business I have realized that work life balance is like a wave and an evolving process. Not every important aspect of my life and business gets equal time. There are some seasons when I can push further in my work while other parts remain steady or slow down. This is part of the reason I wanted to start what I consider a lifestyle business. I’m a wife and mom, multi-passionate, and enjoy being a part of things that are meaningful. All these aspects of my life take time, energy, effort, and intentionality; which is why I value a fluid work life balance that allows me to deeply experience all the important things in life.
What should our readers know about your business?
I started my first business as a Lifestyle Transformational Coach with an educational background in Marriage and Family Therapy and Counseling Psychology. Several months after I gave birth to our son, Sophie (cousin) came to visit Atlanta and wanted to take a look at what the city had to offer and tour homes and neighborhoods. Not yet having real estate experience I asked her what she desired in a home and neighborhood and began planning our weekend with homes and neighborhood tours. On our way home after our last stop, she leaned over and asked, “why are you not in real estate? I can see that this is a passion for you and you’re really amazing at it.” Her words stuck like glue and several months later I started my journey in real estate and I’ve loved this work ever since.
What sets me a part in real estate is that my educational background in psychology and family therapy enables me to listen intently to what my clients want and need. We get super detailed on the home environment that will suite their lifestyle. If they are relocating to metro Atlanta they get the opportunity to immerse themselves in various areas of Atlanta and what each has to offer. I’m able to process this experience with each client and family as they navigate various aspects that may arise; which helps ease stressors and find solutions easily. When all is said and done, I help my clients find the right home and neighborhood to raise their family.
I continue to do meaningful work as a realtor and coach firstly by prayer and reliance on Jesus Christ. Faith. Belief. perseverance, grit. These words describe what it takes; especially when you work for yourself. These words also describe how I have and continue to overcome challenges that arise. Over the years I’ve learned that Believing that your business goals can and will happen, keeps you grounded in doing things that will help you get there. It’s harder to achieve something if you doubt it’ll happen. Also, setbacks and time away (for me it was postpartum and having a young child) are not signs that your business will no longer work or that it’s not what you’re meant to be doing. Setbacks/breaks can be the perfect time to readjust and develop a new structure for your business that allows you to do meaningful work in a better way for yourself and those that you serve.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Atlanta and Georgia in general is such a dynamic place full of experiences for every type of person. Whether you like the beach, hiking, shopping, dining, lounging, or biking…Metro Atlanta has it all.
Some of the places we would hang out and visit are…any of the several beaches in Acworth, my favorites being Cauble/Acworth Beach, Red Top Mountain Beach, and Galts Ferry Beach. The Battery Atlanta on game day. Hiking on Kennesaw Mountain. Tour the Martin Luther King National Historic Park. Hike at Stone Mountain Park. Biking on the Beltline. Hang out in Downtown Alpharetta and the Avalon.
We would eat at: Desta Ethiopian Kitchen, True Food Kitchen, Flower Child, Arepa Mia, Phat Yuca, and deserts at Sally’s Gluten Free Bakery (these are my favorite restaurants with mostly gluten free options) and The Works ATL for an international food court experience. For fine dining we would go to Zakia Modern Lebanese Restaurant, Nan Thai Fine Dining, The Canoe, Aria, The Sundial, and Nikolai’s Roof.
We would get all our shopping feels at the Avalon, Mall of Georgia, Westside Provisions District, Lenox Sqaure and Phipps Plaza, The Halcyon, and the Outlet Shoppes at Atlanta.
Day trips close to the city: The Ritz Carlton Lake Oconee resort with a boat ride on Lake Oconee. Tubing and touring Helen Georgia (a German inspired town). Callaway Gardens. Spa experience at Chateau Elan.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First, I want to thank Jesus Christ for all He has done. I would not be where I am today without Him and I continue to seek Him for guidance as I navigate work and life every day. My biggest supporter and cheerleader is my husband. He’s always there to listen to my dreams and desires and gives me all the room I need to explore my passions. His belief in my skills and ability to serve my clients well fuels my spirit every day and is another affirmation for me to keep going and never give up. My family and friends have also been amazing from the moment I started my business. Their encouragement at the beginning, their hugs and listening ears when things were tough, and they’re praise and excitement for my wins. It truly is amazing to have a supportive village.
