We had the good fortune of connecting with Noelle Kay and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Noelle, we’d love to hear more about your end-goal, professionally.
No one ever asks me this. Most people assume that I just want to be famous singing all over the world, but I want so much more. I know fame comes with the territory but I want to be an international star, singing in so many different countries but I want to collaborate all over the world too. I want to meet artists from all different parts of the world and make music. I want to artist manage and give an experience to the up and coming generation of music that they will feel comfortable taking risks. I ultimately want to create a better lane for independent artists. I also want to be the first singer that is able to get on with their own written music. That’s why I do freestyles A LOT, exercising my pen game,

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’ve been singing on stage since I was 7 years old. My second grade teacher heard me singing in class and immediately put me in the play as the singer. From that day moving forward I was on stage nonstop. I didn’t get the recording experience until I was graduating HS. I’m most proud of my consistency. Singing from 7 on stage in front of hundreds of people for most of my life is really huge for me. I am truly a shy person at the core and I’ve been challenged outside my comfort zone and now it seems effortless. I’ve gotten here with practice and being put into professional rooms at an early age. I’ve been professionally trained in the business as well as an actor attending LaGuardia Arts “Fame School.” My professors and directors taught me how to conduct myself in business being a brand. It means a lot the to me that I was trained by the best of the best in theatre. It hasn’t been easy having that professionalism under my belt. A lot of the industry is based on who you not and not what you know. So those accolades are hard to hold onto in a business where you can be silenced and come off too strong knowing what you want out of things and how you want them. I’ve learned to stay out the way. I’m creating my own lane which requires very little outside noise but a strong, solid TEAM. That’s where #teamnoellekay comes from. That’s my brand. And as many times as I’ve had to change my team to find the right folks to have by my side, I think that’s the message behind it. I’m an only child so there were days where my team was just me, but now I see so many moving parts to how I can get things completed on sets and shoots. The BAP (black American princess) is raw and authentic. WE keep me strong and rooted in the self and staying true to my values. I’m black so I’m beautifully melanated. I’m American because I was born and raised in the Boogie down Bronx of NYC. I am a princess! I have goddess energy nonstop and I want all my women to feel that when I sing. I’m unapologetically me and if you ever saw the movie BAPS (my favorite movie) you will understand that as much as you can be a product of your environment, change is good and experiences will change you and only make you better. I’m building my franchise. Im getting my home base! Stay tuned!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
It’s so funny because my best friend lives in Maryland right now, but shes from Long Island so she’s basically not from New York LOL. BUT I would take my girl to STK, but I’m from the Bronx so we are hitting City Island and going to JP’s for the bourgeoisie, Johnny’s at the end for the cheaper side. I’ll just go to BBQs for drinks to be honest. Texas size me please. I love Ricardo’s on 2nd Avenue for a little bit of everything. Good music, great food, good drinks! As far as hanging out, I’m not into the club scene but Lot 29 for calm vibes and getting up to dance. Summertime in Bryant Park, let’s talk about movie night or skating! so much fun. You can set up a nice picnic and have a good time. So many places and things to explore. Museums like crazy. Here in NYC, there are endless possibilities with a city that NEVER sleeps.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would say a few people! First and foremost I’m shouting out my Mama. She has helped me financially the entire way. My whole life she’s never missed a beat, I’m truly grateful that even though she doesn’t know the music business she is willing to take risks with me and invest in my dream.

My partner. I don’t really speak much about my personal life and relationship because I keep them very separate as we do work together, but I have to shout her out because she’s given me a platform to share my voice beyond the music. Most artists get silenced in this business and being on the podcast Thank Me Later gives me the opportunity to still have my voice and speak on topics that truly resonate with who I am as a person.

Last but not least, my cousin. She is the founder and CEO of ForeverDope Management. She is truly a trailblazer. I have been able to be her client and build a network in Atlanta doing various shows and even being on the Web series Atlanta’s Ugly. I’m looking forward to moving out there soon and continuing my dream along side of hers because we truly are a DOPE TEAM.
