We had the good fortune of connecting with Nnamdi Okoro and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nnamdi, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
I have a favorite quote that inspires me to be determined and driven in my work: “Today I will do what others won’t so I can do what others can’t tomorrow.” By putting in the extra effort and sacrificing my leisure time and comfort, I believe I can achieve success and reach my goals. I understand that hard work now will enable me to do things in the future that others may not be able to. I have a clear objective in mind and I am willing to put in the effort to achieve it. My dedication to my work and my commitment to my goals set me apart from others who may not strive for more. I am determined to make my business a success through hard work and dedication.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am the Founder/CEO of Dished. Dished is a platform that connects culinary freelancers, such as private chefs, bakers, and bartenders, with consumers looking for their services. Our platform allows vendors to manage bookings, orders, and payments while giving consumers an easy way to find and hire these culinary creators. We call our vendors “Dishers.”
What sets us apart is our commission-free platform. This means that we don’t charge vendors for using our platform, which helps them to grow their businesses. We have spent the past year building Dished by interviewing people in the culinary industry and we have gone through various iterations of the product to find the appropriate fit. Through these actions, we have learned that it is crucial to iterate and adjust the product as the industry continually shifts.
We are excited about Dished because we believe it provides aspiring food business owners with the tools they need to get started, and it can help existing vendors to scale their businesses by leveraging the tech we provide. We are proud of what we have built so far and believe it will make an impact in the culinary industry.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If I had friends coming to town, the first place I would take them is the Comet Bike Trail in Austell. It’s a great spot for outdoor fun, and you can rent a bike for just $10 and ride for almost 100 miles on the trail.
Another place I love to go with friends is the Grand Lekki Cafe in Norcross. They have the best Egusi and Suya, which are traditional Nigerian dishes that I love. If you haven’t tried them before, I would definitely recommend giving them a try! It’s a great way to experience some authentic Nigerian cuisine.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I am incredibly grateful to my parents for bringing me to this country when I was only 3 years old and for instilling in me the value of hard work. As immigrants from Nigeria, they have faced many challenges and obstacles in their lives, but they have always remained determined and resilient. Their example has taught me that with dedication and perseverance, I can accomplish anything I set my mind to. I am proud to be their son and I am thankful for everything they have done for me.”
