Meet Nina Carter | Mental Health Therapist and Life Coach

We had the good fortune of connecting with Nina Carter and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nina, Let’s talk about principles and values – what matters to you most?
One of the values that matters most to me is alignment—being in sync with purpose, people, and the season I’m in. When I’m aligned, there’s peace, clarity, and momentum. But when that alignment is off, even good things can start to feel heavy. That’s why I try to listen when my spirit feels unsettled—it’s usually pointing me back to what matters.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My work is deeply rooted in healing, storytelling, and empowerment. As a therapist, author, and speaker, my “art” is in helping people find their voice, confront their truth, and rewrite the narratives that no longer serve them. I blend clinical insight with creativity—whether it’s through therapy sessions, my book Here I Am, or speaking from the stage, I use words as instruments of transformation.
What sets me apart is the fusion of faith, education, and lived experience. I’m not just offering theory—I’ve walked through pain, loss, identity shifts, and breakthroughs. My work isn’t just professional, it’s personal. And that vulnerability invites others to be real, too.
Getting here wasn’t easy. I’ve battled self-doubt, career transitions, and moments where I questioned my purpose. But I kept showing up—led by faith, supported by community, and anchored in my calling. Each obstacle became a lesson in resilience and obedience. I’ve learned to trust timing, embrace detours, and honor the process.
What I want the world to know is this: healing is possible. Reinvention is holy work. And your story—no matter how messy—is still worthy of being told. My brand is about giving people permission to be whole, seen, and free. It’s not just therapy. It’s transformation.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend came to visit, oh we’d be outside—but with naps in between, because we grown grown. Here’s the “Bestie in the A” week-long itinerary, curated for laughs, snacks, and soft life vibes:
Day 1: Touchdown & Takeoff
Pick her up from the airport like the VIP she is. First stop: Slutty Vegan—because what’s a welcome without a burger named One Night Stand? Then back home for PJs, wine, and storytime (aka catching up on all the drama like we’re on our own podcast).
Day 2: Bougie Brunch & Spa Day
Brunch at The Garden Room, where the drinks are strong, the flowers are fake, and the prices say “don’t check your bank app.” Then we’re off to the Waldorf Astoria Spa to exfoliate our sins and pretend we’re rich aunties for a few hours.
Day 3: Tourist with Taste
We hit Ponce City Market, walk the BeltLine like we work out (we don’t), take 37 selfies, then grab overpriced popsicles we’ll regret but eat anyway. Dinner at Twisted Soul because… flavors. Period.
Day 4: Black Excellence Day
Visit the National Center for Civil and Human Rights to honor our history and remind ourselves that we come from royalty. Then shop at The Village Market, because supporting Black-owned businesses is a lifestyle, not a trend. End with soul food from Old Lady Gang—and yes, we’re ordering everything and boxing half of it.
Day 5: Praise & Pajamas
Church in the morning (because God is good and so is gospel music), then straight into Toast on Lenox for brunch and bottomless hallelujahs. The rest of the day? Pajamas, deep talks, snacks, and pretending we’ll go to bed early (we won’t).
Day 6: Cute & Outside-ish
Hair done, nails done, everything did—we’re headed to Rooftop L.O.A. for cocktails and views, followed by Suite Lounge if our knees allow it. Backup plan? Home by 11 with DoorDash.
Day 7: Goodbye but Make it Sentimental
Coffee from Black Coffee ATL, a stroll through Piedmont Park, and journaling our favorite moments. Hugs, ugly crying, and one last “Girl, this week was everything!”
Atlanta’s got flavor, fun, and a whole lotta energy—but add a best friend? That’s a vacation and a therapy session rolled into one. #SoftLifeActivated

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Absolutely! I’d love to give a heartfelt shoutout to the people who’ve shaped my journey in countless ways. First, my parents and my sister—your love, strength, and unwavering support have been the foundation of who I am. To my daughters, you are my motivation and my why—I strive to be better every day because of you. And to my closest friends—Shanai, DeAngelo, Erika, Desiree, Doralee, and Hill—your friendship has been a lifeline in both the high moments and the hard ones. Thank you for seeing me, loving me, and pushing me forward. I wouldn’t be here without you.
