Meet Nikki Whymns | Community Organizer, Event Director

We had the good fortune of connecting with Nikki Whymns and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nikki, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
The community event that I produce celebrates the achievements of the Caribbean-American community and is held during national Caribbean-American Heritage Month in June. Families come together to enjoy multinational Caribbean culture, live entertainment, favorite foods and lots of giveaways! Businesses also benefit from the opportunity to serve their community and build new clientele.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I have been blessed to have held a number of various titles, positions and leadership roles throughout my life. The common denominator in everything that I do is serving my community. My journey has seen incredible highs and devastating lows. During seasons of change and challenge, I learned to hold firm in my beliefs. Psalm 46 taught me to replace fear and frustration with faith. In this life, only the strong survive. I am a senior banker, international philanthropist, and entrepreneur. With my streetwear line, BLT GOD TUF, I’ve developed a Children’s Fund that has provided clothes, school supplies and food to children in Accra, Ghana; Nassau, Bahamas, and here in Atlanta, Georgia. I’m also part of an international community organization called the African Diaspora Development Institute which is focused on formalizing the 6th Region of the African Union in order for the diaspora to participate in the development of Africa. Learn more about the organization at www.ouraddi.gov. I also published a book of poetry last year called The VVS Book of Truth. You can find it on Amazon. My poetry vividly speaks to love, family life, loss, passions, and sexuality. I’m always working on something!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m a proud Caribbean-American! One of my favorite things about Atlanta is that finding a Caribbean vibe is an Uber ride away. For my friends and family wanting to get a taste of the city, I’d take them to the standard tourist attractions like the Coca Cola Factory, Botanical Gardens and Six Flags. For nightlife fun, it would have to be Rocksteady’s Bamba Tuesdays, Embrace Saturday’s at Thrive and Rum Punch Brunch on Sunday after church!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I was born and raised on the Caribbean island of Nassau, Bahamas. There, I attended the Bahamas Faith Ministries church and was blessed by the teachings of my late great pastor, Dr. Myles Munroe. I have a collection of books written by Dr. Myles. The one that changed my life and my mindset about pursuing my passions is The Principles and Power of Vision. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in entrepreneurship or working in a leadership role.
