We had the good fortune of connecting with Nikita Williams and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nikita, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor behind the success of my brand has been consistency and staying authentic to who I am as a person and artist. Being a professional dancer is a lot of hard work that people don’t realize because they only see the finished product. They don’t see the multiple no’s before they see success and that is why consistency is so important. If I would have given up I would not be successful. It has actually become a part of my brand to showcase my journey. It has allowed me to get to know so many of my supporters from all over the world and allowed them to get to know me. My hopes in showing my journey is to inspire other aspiring artists to go for their goals no matter what they are and know that they too can achieve them.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My dancing is what I consider to be my art. What sets me apart from a lot of other dancers I meet is that I started dance as an adult and discovered it was a hidden talent of mines and it took off from there. I am most proud of my growth over the years and how many other artists I have been able to inspire. I have achieved my success so far through hard work, consistency and determination . It is certainly not easy especially being an African American dancer in this industry, however it is very rewarding because it’s something I love to do. I overcame the challenges I have faced by being determined and staying passionate. Some lessons I have learned along the way have been to stay true to who you are, always remain humble and become undeniably great. Now I am able to not only work as a professional dancer but I also own my own dance wear company called Body By Nikki and I also teach a weekly class called Heels with Nikki where I am able to train and inspire other dancers in my community. I am able to provide them with a space that is safe, fun and welcoming that they can come to every week and grow as artists and learn something new. We have become like a little family. My ultimate goal would be to continue to dance professionally but just on a larger scale with my favorite mainstream artists on tours and music videos. I would like for the world to look at me and see a young woman who has handled every obstacle thrown her way with style and grace and became successful. My brand is bigger than me. It is for everyone with a dream who wants to be successful no matter when you start. I believe it’s never too late.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my friend were visiting the area and I wanted to show them the best time ever we would visit downtown and eat some of the amazing food and dance

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have amazing coaches and mentors who all deserve recognition becuase they continue to help mold me into the dancer and person I am today. Just to name a few it would be my mentor/ former coach Jarell Gordy, my mentor/ agent Della Hamby, my coach/ mentor Devon Campbell, as well as the amazing support system in my life my best friends Eric Fossett and Aaron Cross. I am also a proud member of Delta Phi Delta Dance Fraternity Incorporated which has also helped mold me into the person and dancer I am today
