Meet Nicole M. Jones | Executive Coach & Management Consultant

We had the good fortune of connecting with Nicole M. Jones and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nicole M., other than deciding to work for yourself, what was the single most important decision you made that contributed to your success?
The most pivotal decision I made in my entrepreneurial journey was leveraging the network I had built over my 30 year career. I contacted coaches, consultants, and fellow entrepreneurs I met throughout my career to seek their advice and guidance. In many ways, this was inspired by Jim Collins’ concept of the “Flywheel” from his book Good to Great. He describes the “Flywheel” as a massive, seemingly overwhelming force that requires both strategy and momentum to set it in motion. Transitioning from a corporate career to entrepreneurship at the age of 50 felt just like that—daunting but full of potential.
By engaging with seasoned entrepreneurs and learning from their experiences, I gained the confidence and clarity I needed to start my own business. These conversations were invaluable in helping me understand the foundational work required to build both my infrastructure and my brand. As a result, I dedicated my first year to learning and establishing a strong foundation. I focused on networking, fostering organic connections, and setting a clear financial goal of breaking even.
In addition, I identified accountability partners within my network to ensure I stayed on track and made consistent progress toward my goals. This approach not only helped me navigate the complexities of entrepreneurship but also empowered me to take meaningful, purposeful steps toward long-term success.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My definition of success today is vastly different from what it was early in my career. In the past, success was measured by promotions and salary increases. Now, it’s about finding fulfillment in my work—especially through continuous learning and helping others grow in their professional journeys.
At the age of 38, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. It was the most challenging period of my life. I was transitioning to a new company, raising three children (including a 1-year-old), and supporting my husband. Everyone relied on me, and I had no idea how I would manage it all. But through the unwavering support of my family and friends, I found the strength to fight. I realized that optimism would become my superpower. I focused on the positive possibilities beyond cancer—my sons’ weddings, the joy of future grandchildren, and the chance to continue building a fulfilling career. Though the battle was incredibly difficult, I knew I had a lot of life left to live, and I trusted that God would guide me through. I was cancer-free just before my 40th birthday.
Unfortunately, eight years later, the cancer returned and spread to other parts of my body. While the fight continues, I am determined not to let cancer break my spirit. My future grandchildren need me, and I will live each day to its fullest, cherishing every moment. This journey has taught me that true strength is not just about physical resilience—it’s about keeping hope alive and living with purpose, no matter the challenges ahead.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to begin by expressing my sincere gratitude to Ed Bastian, CEO of Delta Air Lines, as well as the leadership teams and colleagues at Delta, where I had the privilege of spending nearly 12 years. I am deeply appreciative of the opportunities, connections, and unwavering support that helped shape my career.
I would also like to acknowledge Ebony Smith of Ebenum Equation. Our paths first crossed five years ago when her coaching business was already thriving. At that time, I shared with her my aspiration to become a coach, though the timing wasn’t right given my career commitments. Over the years, we stayed in touch as she continued to grow her business. When I finally made the transition into coaching, Ebony was one of the first people I contacted. She welcomed me into the industry with open arms and generously shared invaluable insights that made the journey much smoother. I will always be grateful for her mentorship and support.
Finally and most importantly, I want to thank my husband Kwende for his continued love and support, no matter what life throws our way.
